Anti Material Rifles - raskaat kiväärit

Like most countries, Germany had a standard-issue antitank rifle when World War II began - the Panzerbuchse 39. It fired an 8x94mm cartridge with a small very high velocity armor-piercing bullet. And like the other AT rifles from the 1930s, the PzB-39 became obsolete quickly as tank armor improved during the war. However, while most countries simply scrapped their antitank rifles, the Germans opted instead to convert the guns into dedicated grenade launchers.

Because the PzB-39 was already designed for a very high pressure cartridge, it was ideally suited to handle the stresses of firing large anti-tank grenades. Rather than relying on simple kinetic energy to penetrate, the grenades could use shaped charge technology to be vastly more effective than AP bullets.

In converting the PzB-39 into the GrB-39, the barrels were cut down, grenade launching cups attached to the muzzles, new sights designed for grenade use, bipods lengthened, and the folding stocks were fixed in place. Most of the PzB-39 rifles in service were subject to these modifications, and the resulting GrB-39 guns were able to be reasonably effective through the end of the war.

The CheyTac M200 Intervention is a massive precision rifle chambered for the .408 CheyTac cartridge (although it can also be had in .375 CheyTac). It uses an action made by EDM Arms, and is capable of sub-MOA accuracy out to 2200-2500 yards (2000-2300 meters). There are other rifles that fulfill those specs as well, but the M200 Intervention gets an exaggerated amount of attention because it has a pretty distinctive look, with its large under-barrel carry handle and collapsing stock (you may recognize it from the 2007 movie "Shooter", based on a Stephen Hunter novel). Today I will take a look at some of the details of this rifle and its ammunition, and address the more common misunderstandings about it and long range shooting in general.

Naapurin VSV-338

Its design is based on an aluminium alloy chassis and permits the rapid change of barrels.

The VSV-338 long range sniper rifle is designed for 338 Lapua Magnum ammunition, and can be used in all environmental conditions at ranges of up to 1 500 meters. Kalashnikov Group developed this new platform under their own initiative.

VSV-338 sniper rifle is of a modular design. It features a manual operated, rotary bolt action with three radial lugs that engage the barrel extension. Its two-stage trigger is adjustable for pull and position. The ambidextrous safety blocks the bolt, sear and trigger when engaged. The forend of the rifle features the Key-MOD system to attach accessories such as sling loops, bipods, and detachable Picatinny rails. The top of the receiver and forend have Picatinny rais that allow the user to mount iron and optical or night vision sights.

The rifle is equipped with a side-folding buttstock with an adjustable length of pull and cheek riser, and with height-adjustable rear support. The furniture (forend cover, pistol grip, and stock) is made from a high strength polymer and are ergonomically shaped, and well suited for right- or left-handed shooters.

For more than 50 years, the Russian army has fielded a beastly semi-automatic sniper rifle called the Dragunov. Now the rifle’s developer has pulled back the curtain from its potential replacement, the SVK, at a major Moscow arms show.

The SVK is a semi-automatic 7.62 x 54R-millimeter weapon designed to support infantry on the battlefield. Kalashnikov Concern — which absorbed Dragunov maker Izhevsk in 2013 — claims the SVK “was designed with input from active duty snipers of several Russian Special Forces units.”

Austrian_Company_Ritter_and_Stark_launches_its_SX-1_modular_tactical_rifle_on_American_market_640_001.jpg

Ritter & Stark is a newly formed firearms manufacturing company in southern Austria. At the recent AUSA 2016, the company unveiled their flagship product, the SX-1 Modular Tactical Rifle (MTR). The rifle is an Austrian take on the PSR style rifles that are currently sweeping the tactical precision long gun world. By that I mean a convertible barrel system from .308 Win, .300 Win Mag, and .338 Lapua, in addition to having a folding buttstock and modular components.

Lobaev Arms out of Tarusa, Russia is reportedly developing a record-setting sub-.2-.3-MOA bolt-action .408 CheyTac anti-materiel/sniper rifle called the SVLK-14S Sumrak (Twilight) Ultra Long-Range Rifle (ULRR) that’s already achieved 3,400-meter (3,718-yard) hits in testing, and is being further developed with a longer barrel and heavier ammunition to effectively engage targets of opportunity out to 4,200 meters (4,593 yards), or roughly 2.6 miles.

Lobaev Arms CEO Nikolay Lobaev says “Last year we successfully shot a target 3,400 metres (3,718 yards) away. Since then, we have implemented a number of innovations including making the barrel longer and the bullet slightly heavier. Hopefully, this year we will be able to set a new record,” the aforementioned 4,200 meters.

The latest iteration of the Lobaev Arms SVLK-14S ULRR anti-materiel/sniper rifle utilizes a composite stock comprised of “a carbon fiber-reinforced ‘sandwich’ of plastic, fiberglass and kevlar that is specially designed for the powerful Cheytac round. A long aircraft-grade aluminium alloy chassis is with stainless steel threaded insert and bolt, known as the KING v.3, is integrated into the stock to provide increased firmness and stability,” according to the company’s website, and is described by the company as “precise and unbreakable”.

Truvelo-CMS-1-1.jpg

South African company Truvelo has released a new anti-materiel bolt action rifle chambered in 20x42mm caliber. The rifle itself is not new, because it is based on their large caliber CMS rifles, but the new caliber makes it a pretty interesting military firearm.

The 20×42 mm cartridge is lighter and shoots with a much flatter trajectory than the 40mm NATO grenades. It was initially developed by another South African company called Denel PMP. It is a straight walled, belted, low recoil cartridge with a variety of projectiles: API, HE, SAPHET, PRAC and PRAC-T. The projectiles are launched at subsonic muzzle velocities of 1000 fps (310 m/s).

Mitenkähän antimateria aseena toimisi Lahti L-39, 20x138 on kuitenkin aika hyvä kaliberi ja luoti on varmaankin aika hyvälentoinen, etenkin jos se on torpedopyrstöinen....
Tulisi aika rankasti lisää potkua ja läpäisyä aseeseen. Kestäisiköhän rakenne lie tuollaista...?

The mostly Kurdish composed Syrian Democratic Forces were recently pictured in combat against the so-called Islamic State with a modified Zastava M93 Black Arrow anti-material rifle. The M93 is chambered in either .50 BMG or the Russian 12.7x108mm cartridge. The M93s in use by not only the SDF but also elements of the Kurdish Peshmerga are most likely in 12.7x108mm due to the ample supply of Russian ammunition in the area of operations. Kurdish forces have been known to have been using M93s for some time now
