Tuollainen retardi leuka loksahti auki hymy.

Nojaa no... Susirumia koneita on mennyt kyllä tuotantoonkin pitkin vuosikymmeniä.

Tuota on hyvä alkaa viljellä vastapunttina hurmokselliselle Gripen-markkinoinnille. ”Natsihävittäjä” säväyttää mukavasti.

Sama vika Ranualla, sanotaan.

The F-35, CNI Evolution, and Evolving the Combat Force
04 Dec 2019 Robbin Laird

"The F-35 is termed a fifth-generation platform, but is better understood as a first generation flying combat system. Or a next generation capability or foundation for building a C2/ISR infrastructure for the integrated distributed force.

Because the F-35 is being stood up worldwide with both the U.S. Services and multiple core allies, how the F-35 global enterprise is being shaped has significant consequences for interactive transformation of those forces.

A key aspect of the F-35 comprises the onboard combat systems and data fusion inside the aircraft.

Because the software is upgradable and concomitant hardware changes have been made to facilitate major software upgrades, separate combat systems are affected by innovation driven within each combat system, and separate innovations and upgrades are driven by the core companies and the partners responsible for each combat system.

The companies driving change in each combat system, along with their partners, can reach a global user community and use these innovations while considering how such innovations could proliferate into their wider force structure development.

A key example is the CNI system. I remember that one of the early criticisms by some F-35 analysts was that it did not have a radio. But that was good news, not an oversight. According to Lockheed Martin:

“The Communications, Navigation and Identification (CNI) system is the most advanced integrated avionics system ever engineered. The integrated CNI has been developed by Northrop Grumman and affords F-35 pilots capabilities derived from more than 27 avionics functions. Through software-defined radio technology, the CNI allows for simultaneous operation of multiple critical functions, such as identification of friend or foe, precision navigation, and various voice and data communications, while greatly reducing size, weight, and power demands."...

...Major General Silveria, then head of the USAF Warfare Center and now Lt. General Silveria, Commandant of the USAF Academy, explained: “Clearly, a key aspect of the F-35 is software upgradability. [It] provides for growth potential but requires a significantly different way to operate. “This is difficult for people to grasp who do not fly the aircraft. One aspect associated with both fusion and software upgradability is that the F-35 is an integrated weapons system.

“Many articles have criticized this or that particular system on the aircraft; but [the F-35] aircraft is not really about this or that system; it is about the capability of a set of diverse systems to work together to deliver an effect and overall capabilities.

“Another key aspect is what software eliminates from the aircraft yet allows for enhanced combat effectiveness. A chief example is the CNI system. The plane has none of the items traditionally on airplanes that transmit and receive. It does not have any of those.

“Instead, it has two CNI com and navigation racks. It has two racks and you instruct the airplane: I would like to transmit in the UHF waveform; it generates that waveform and transmits in the UHF waveform, which is a difficult concept to think about, because there is no UHF radio on the airplane. There is no ILS on the airplane. “If I want an ILS, I have to go in, tap on my glass and say, ‘hey, good morning jet, I’m going to need an ILS today, so I need you to generate the ILS waveform when I need it.’

“What does this mean in terms of performance and maintainability? I do not have to maintain what is not there; I do not need to be affected by failure rates of systems that are no longer there...."

ja jatkuu vaikka kuinka vielä lähteessä...

For engine inlets what we learned was the rivets in the engine inlets are also a big radar reflector, therefore in the F-35 the inlets are all composites so there is not a single rivet involved in the construction of the inlets. You also have to hide the engines, for the spinning titanium blades are a big radar signature. So, for the F-35 you can actually put your head in the intake and still have no view of the actual engine in the F-35. Finally, we have to align the edges so that not only are the edges aligned from the leading edge to the wing to the horizon tail, but actually the fuselage is aligned with the vertical tails, and the angles associated with the inlets are also aligned with the horizontals, so not only can we isolate a spike but we can actually mitigate the return of energy to the adversary, and we have to embed the antennas, so everything has to be flush mounted from the electronic warfare gear to the targeting pods, to the jamming pods, to any of the antennas - everything has to be flush mounted to the airplane from the beginning.

Finally, we get to the rear quarter. I have found, as many in this room have found, that when you drop a bomb on somebody they tend to get angry about that, so it is not only ingression to the target, you need to egress as well, and those mobile targets since they move around you do not know where they are so it is not enough to be stealth in a tiny quadrant of the airplane, you have to have all-aspects stealth. And then you have to carry your stores internally. If you do all these things and you do not carry the weapons internal to the airplane, you are going to compromise your signature and you are going to undo all the effort to reduce the signature, and it has to be designed in, from the beginning.

Japan reverses course on F-35, will continue assembly at home
Tokyo ends plan to import finished jets from US as Mitsubishi Heavy cuts costs

TOKYO -- Japan intends to continue assembling F-35 stealth fighters domestically, reversing plans to import the finished aircraft from the U.S., Nikkei has learned.

Since Tokyo adopted the F-35A fighter jet in fiscal 2011 under the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program, Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has assembled and conducted final checks on aircraft sold to the country by Lockheed Martin.

But the costly process prompted a decision by Tokyo to import finished F-35s starting with new contracts made in fiscal 2019, which began in April. Japan's cabinet approved plans at the end of 2018 to buy another 105 F-35s, including 42 F-35Bs, which are capable of short takeoffs and vertical landings.

However, Tokyo looks to reverse that decision after Mitsubishi Heavy revamped its assembly process to reduce costs.

Finishing one F-35 in Japan is now expected to cost 9.37 billion yen ($86.3 million), compared with 9.42 billion yen to ship the plane from the U.S., according to Japan's Defense Ministry. The cabinet is expected to approve the domestic production plan soon.

The F-35 represents a key model for Japan's Air Self-Defense Force. Big orders could alleviate U.S. President Donald Trump's concerns over bilateral trade imbalances, even if the final assembly is done in Japan. In May, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe showed Trump around the Kaga, a Maritime Self-Defense Force vessel slated to serve as the carrier for F-35Bs.

Both governments are agreed on the production plan, sources familiar with the matter said.
