F-35 Lightning II

"A Senate committee looking into the controversial multi-billion-dollar Joint Strike Fighter program has recommended Defence develop a plan B in case the high-tech F-35A aircraft are not ready on time.

It noted the Australian Strategic Policy Institute's advice that the "most sensible hedge" would be to order more F/A-18F Super Hornets."

Australiaa odottaa uusien Super Hornettien ostaminen, vanhan Hornet-kaluston vanhentuessa. Tältä osin heillä on teoriassa* valmis B-suunnitelma, mikä taas puuttuu esim.

Committee chairman Senator Alex Gallacher said the members were not convinced any of the suggested JSF alternatives were capable of meeting Australia's needs. They included the Saab Gripen, Eurofighter Typhoon and Dassault Rafale.

Notwithstanding the criticisms, the committee is satisfied that the F-35A is the only aircraft able to meet Australia's strategic needs for the foreseeable future, and that sufficient progress is being made in the test and evaluation program to address performance issues of concern," Senator Gallacher told the Senate.

RAAF chief Air Marshal Leo Davies told the committee he was confident there would be no capability gap.
It wasn't convinced and recommended Defence develop a hedging strategy to address the risk of a capability gap.
The Australian Strategic Policy Institute told the committee the most sensible hedge would be procuring additional F/A-18F Super Hornets.

Jännä miten vaan osia lainailemalla noista jutuista saa paremmin omaan agendaan sopivia.

Nyt kaikki F-35 kriitikot, korva tarkkana:

"Another $333 million is being allotted to set not-to-exceed prices for one F-35A and one F-35B on behalf of a non-US participant in the programme. The contract award notice on 17 October does not identify the participant, but only Italy has ordered both F-35As and F-35Bs in Lot 9." https://www.flightglobal.com/news/a...-million-contract-linked-to-ninth-lot-430453/

Cue "mitäs minä sanoin, kallis" jne. ;)

"Another $25.4 million of the award comes from the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme to pay for “country unique requirements”. Israel, Japan and South Korea account for the F-35 programme’s three FMS customers so far. Of those three, only Israel and Japan have requested aircraft under the Lot 9 production contract."

Eli Israelin omaperäisyyksistä saa maksaa 25 miljoonaa tässä vaiheessa ylimääräistä.

Mielenkiintoista.

C) Kylmä sota on totta.
D) Jotain muuta, kuten liikaa öljyä.

Ihan tarkkoja Norjalaisten konemääriä en muista, mutta toteutuessaan lisäkonekauppa olisi selkeä ero viimeaikaiselle väännölle kaikkine lentotuntimäärineen muissa maissa.
