Report: Hamas deployed additional forces along border in attempt to preserve peace

Palestinian media outlets are reporting that Hamas is attempting to preserve the peace along the border with Israel. According to reports, the organization deployed additional forces along the border in order to prevent further rocket launches into Israel.

Palestinian media outlets are reporting that the terrorist organization placed additional forces near the security fence in order to prevent further rocket launches into Israeli territory.

In addition, it was reported that Hamas recently thwarted three rocket launch attempts from Gaza into Israel. This report comes about a week after Israel exposed that the terrorist organization built a 2-kilometer long underground tunnel stretching from Gaza into Israel.

Watch: Footage from the Mount Dov military zone
Commanders from the 890th Paratroop Battalion implied that Hezbollah is preparing for the next battle against Israel and explained the stressful reality of the soldiers who are stationed along the Israeli-Lebanese border. “During the next war, they will have a lot more to lose,” explained a senior level IDF commander who is stationed in the area.

In an interview with Channel 2 News, commanders from the 890th Paratroop Battalion implied that Hezbollah is preparing for the next battle against Israel and explained the stressful reality of the soldiers who are stationed along the Israeli-Lebanese border. The 890th Paratroop Battalion is currently operating from the Gladiola military post, which is located on the top of Mount Dov, an area that has been the center of the Israel-Hezbollah conflict in recent years.

“This is a new road that we built here, after a Givati commander and his soldier were killed a year and a half ago,” explained Lt. Col. Eliav Elbaz, the head commander of the 890th Paratroop Battalion. “The other side is obsessively collecting [intelligence information] about everything that occurs here, everything related to our military forces.”

While hundreds of thousands of Israelis are visiting streams and nature reserves in the Galilee, not far from where the footage was captured, the calm Mount Dov region is the front line against the terrorist organization that sits along Lebanon’s border with Israel.

“This is the only military post in Israel that is still called an “infiltrating post,” explained Elbaz about Gladiola. “[It is] situated right on the blue line. Regular vehicles cannot travel here.”

“We arrived here 17 days ago. We never take off our shoes,” said Matan Rozles, an officer from the 890th Paratroop Battalion. “We are always on alert. We celebrated the Passover Seder here. We were happy, enjoying ourselves, singing and relaxing. It was the happiest Passover Seder I’ve ever experienced, I hope they really heard us in Lebanon.”

“Lebanon is here, 30 meters from us. Hezbollah roams freely here,” explained Elbaz, pointing to the other side of the border. According to Elbaz, Hezbollah terrorists are frequently spotted on the border, monitoring the IDF’s movements and actions. “Their actions resemble what they did before the Second Lebanon War.”

“We are prepared for a war,” warned Elbaz. “During the next war, they will have a lot more to lose.”

IDF drill simulates Gaza infiltration, hostage-taking situation

After a new tunnel was discovered and demolished on the southern border last week, many Israelis' fear of terrorists infiltrating their home town grew even stronger.

The IDF's Givati infantry brigade recently conducted a drill that simulated a much-feared scenario of a Palestinian terrorist infiltrating an Israeli town near Gaza and taking hostages.

In video footage from the drill, which was conducted near the Israeli-Egyptian border, a group of combat troops can be seen practicing an armed raid of a building. Their commander, Lt. Yair Alsheikh, explained that exercises like this happen on a regular basis.

"There are always going to be terrorists," he said. "Sometimes the conditions change or the landscape changes, but at the end of the day the terrorist can reach any place, and that's why we practice as much as we can."

Hamas terrorist indicted for serious crimes against Israel

A Hamas terrorist was indicted today for committing over a dozen of serious crimes that jeopardize the security of the State of Israel. Among other charges, the terrorist is accused of trying to murder IDF soldiers on several occasions, communicating with an enemy of the state and receiving forbidden military training

The Southern District Prosecution filed an indictment against a member of the Gaza-based terrorist organization. According to the prosecution, he committed several serious crimes that jeopardize Israel’s security. Among other offenses, he is accused of surveilling IDF soldiers and attempting to murder IDF soldiers on several occasions.

18 charges are listed in the serious indictment against the 24-year-old Hamas terrorist, whose identity has not been released. According to the indictment, which was filed to the Beersheba District Court, the terrorist “attempted to harm IDF soldiers along the Gaza border and civilians” with the help of other terrorists.

“The accused, along with others, surveilled military targets near Israel’s border with Gaza, traced the movement of IDF units and planted explosive devices, in hopes of killing IDF soldiers,” according to the indictment. In addition, the terrorist is accused of firing mortar shells and rockets at IDF posts: “It was a miracle that no soldiers were injured.”

The terrorist also received Hamas military training and was one of the owners of a smuggling tunnel that extended from Egypt to Gaza. Military uniforms and weapons were frequently smuggled via this tunnel and the terrorist received 2,000 US dollars a month through this business. The tunnel was eventually flooded by the Egyptians.

Netanyahu condemns Deputy Chief of Staff’s comments regarding Holocaust and Israel

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu harshly criticized Deputy Chief of Staff Yair Golan for his recent comments regarding the Holocaust and the current reality in Israel. Netanyahu called Golan’s claims “outrageous” and “fundamentally baseless.”

Today (Sunday), Netanyahu criticized Golan for comparing the current reality in Israel to the processes that occurred in Germany in the 1930s. “The comparison that came up during the Deputy Chief of Staff’s speech regarding the processes that characterized Nazi Germany 60 years ago is outrageous,” said Netanyahu, as he opened today’s cabinet meeting. “These are fundamentally baseless claims.”

“The statements that were made should never have been made at any time, and especially not at that time [Holocaust Remembrance Day],” added Netanyahu. “They cause harm to Israeli society and shame to the Holocaust. The Deputy Chief of Staff is a decorated officer with a great deal of dignity but his words in this regard were totally wrong and I fully reject them.”

“A lot of things were said about the State of Israel in the past few days,” noted Netanyahu. “There is no country without signs of intolerance and violence but the Israeli democracy is strong. It condemns such signs and deals with them through means of the law and other measures.”

On Wednesday evening, Golan spoke at a memorial ceremony for Holocaust Remembrance Day. In his speech, Golan stated: “If there is something that scares me about the memory of the Holocaust, it is the identification of horrifying processes that occurred in Europe in general and Germany in particular - 70, 80 and 90 years ago - and finding evidence of them here among us, today, in 2016.”

ON suorastaan outoa, ettei Hizbullah syyttänyt alun perinkään Israelia korkean sotilaskomentajansa Mustafa Badreddinen teloittamisesta Damaskoksen lentokentällä, vaan osoitti sormensa Syyriassa taistelevaan kapinallisjoukkoon, mikä on epätavallista. Se oli kuitenkin voitto Israelille.

Ya'alon urges IDF officers to 'speak their minds', much to Netanyahu's dismay

With growing tension felt between him and Ya'alon, it is feared that Netanyahu might appoint Lieberman as Defense Minister in his place.

Two weeks after IDF Deputy Chief Yair Golan sparked controversy in his Holocaust Day speech, Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon delivered a speech on Sunday evening at an Independence Day event at HaKirya military base in Tel Aviv, in which he encouraged senior-level officers to "speak their minds" even if their beliefs don't always match the government's position. This adds fuel to the already-tense relations between Ya'alon and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has publicly condemned Golan's statements.

In his speech on Holocaust Day, Golan spoke about the need for the Israeli society to take a close look into its own faults, such as intolerance and racism, and said he was worried that Israel may be going through processes similar to those that occurred in Germany in the early 20th century. While Netanyahu and other right-wing MKs were quick to denounce these statements, Ya'alon expressed his support for Golan and said a good commander must serve as a moral compass to his soldiers.

Now, following Netanyahu's publicized proposal to Yisrael Beiteinu Chairman Avigdor Lieberman to join his government, sources close to Ya'alon are concerned that Lieberman, if he agrees to it, might be appointed as Defense Minister in place of Ya'alon, who would have to settle for the Foreign Ministry.

Watch: How the IDF said goodbye to Ya’alon a decade ago
A day before Ya’alon leaves the Kirya again, this time as resigned Defense Minister, a video prepared by senior-level IDF commanders for the end of his 3-year term as IDF Chief of Staff spread on the web -and even then, Ya’alon’s moral compass was highlighted.

Eleven years ago, former IDF Chief of General Staff Moshe (Bogie) Ya’alon left the Kirya military base following a 3-year term as commander of the IDF. Yesterday (Friday) after Ya’alon, who since became Israel’s Defense Minister, announced his resignation from the government and Knesset, the IDF shared the special farewell video they had prepared for their former commander when he left the IDF - and it quickly spread across the web.

Dozens of senior-level IDF officers took part in the video that was prepared in June of 2005, including former Chiefs of Staff Dan Halutz and Benny Gantz, former Deputy Chiefs of Staff Moshe Kaplinsky, Dan Harel and Yair Naveh and former commander of the Southern Command and MK Yoav Galant, who just yesterday was elected to replace Ya’alon in the Security Cabinet of Israel.

Even then, in the special song they prepared for the outgoing Chief of Staff, the IDF commanders decided to highlight Ya’alon’s moral compass, which they claimed led his service both in times of peace and in times of war. As if predicting the future, the commanders chose to end the video clip with a call for Ya’alon to “learn from the bible that anything can happen, and even the most senior commander is on borrowed time. We salute you.”

A rocket was fired at the Sha’ar Ha-Negev Regional Council last night. In all probability, the alarm was not activated before the explosion. No one was injured and no damage was caused in the incident. Following the incident, the IDF attacked two Hamas targets in Southern Gaza.

“The IDF sees Hamas as responsible for what happens in Gaza and will continue to work in order to preserve the quiet in the South,” the IDF Spokespersons Unit stated.

The Gazan media had reported that two rockets were launched at Israel. One of them fell in Gaza and the second one fell in Israel. They also reported that the rockets were launched from Central Gaza. In recent days, Hamas arrested a number of ISIS terrorists who fired rockets at Israel. It was reported perhaps ISIS was the one who fired the rockets this time around and not Hamas.

Watch: IDF’s canine special forces during drill in Jerusalem

Female soldiers and dogs from the IDF’s Oketz Unit participated in a night drill that took place at Jerusalem’s Mahane Yehuda Market. During the drill, the dogs sniffed out hidden weapons in the market that resembles the busy urban areas and narrow alleys in the West Bank villages.

In the middle of the night, female combat soldiers from the Oketz Unit and their dogs roamed the narrow alleys of Jerusalem’s Mahane Yehuda Market, in search of hidden weapons. This time, their activities were part of a drill but the soldiers and their dogs are very familiar with this scenario.

“During the drill at the market, the female soldiers and the dogs are training in an environment filled with characteristics similar to those of areas where we usually operate,” explained S’, a commander in the unit. “There are a lot of distractions, like noise and a lot of people walking around. It mirrors for us and especially for the dogs the lively urban areas such as villages and narrow alleys. This is significant for the dogs that need to practice their areas of expertise in the field with the combat soldiers, despite the many distractions surrounding them.”

“Oketz” is the name of the IDF’s canine special forces unit. The dogs can be trained for a number of tasks including search and rescue or combating terrorism. The Oketz soldiers and their dogs are an important part of the IDF’s ground forces. For instance, many arrest operations in the West Bank are successful thanks to them.

During the drill, the female soldiers gave their dogs orders while they were searching for the hidden weapons. Civilians in the area were watching the soldiers and their dogs work. “There are some [civilians] who stop and show interest in what we are doing,” said S’. “We smile and explain that this is just a drill. There are some people who cheer us on and compliment us on the hard work. They express their enthusiasm when they see female combat soldiers conducting a drill and get curious about what we’re doing.”
