At least one massive explosion at a military weapons depot near the Iranian capital Tehran on Saturday killed several people and was felt at least 45 km miles away, local media reported.

Their force was such that the Iranian Red Crescent rushed 45 ambulances to the two facilities plus 23 buses converted to first-aid vehicles and a helicopter to evacuate the critically injured.

However, only six rescue workers were given access to the Moadarres base and none were permitted to enter to enter Amir-al-Mo'menin because of the facility's sensitivity.

Fourteen hours after the explosions, the blasts continued and fires raged. Surrounding streets were closed and reporters kept away from the scene.

Our sources report increasing evidence that the first explosion was caused by a failed effort to mount a nuclear warhead on a Shahab-3 intermediate-range missile.

It was powerful enough to shatter windows and damage shops in Tehran. People gathering on street corners wondered if Israel had attacked Iran's nuclear sites or destroyed Revolutionary Guards missile bases. They recalled Supreme Ruler Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's threat Thursday, Nov. 10 to take the war to the streets of Tel Aviv if Tehran was attacked.

IRGC spokesman, Brig. Ramedan Sharif, sharply denied what he said was speculation that the military base was linked to Iran's nuclear program. "This blast is not related to any nuclear tests," he said in response to widespread rumors. He insisted the explosion had occurred at an ammo store which was part of the Guards' "self-sufficiency" system, a term they apply to their munitions plants and the factories manufacturing missile components.

The Iranian authorities, after raising the fatality figure to 32, withheld information on the injured, most of which where transferred to IRGC rather than civilian hospitals. Some may have been foreign engineers or scientists whose presence Tehran is anxious to conceal.

The Emergency Council which deals with extraordinary happenings liable to affect the regime's stability met in emergency session Saturday night.

Earlier Saturday, debkafile reported on the two huge explosions at two separate military bases west of Tehran killing dozens of Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), wounding many more and trapping an unknown number under rubble.

In Tehran, 40 kilometers away, windows were shattered and damage caused vehicles and shops. The blasts were heard in Tehran's center.

debkafile's military and Iranian sources report that the explosions may have been part of a series carried out by Iranian dissident groups last month.

The suspicion of sabotage was strengthened by the occurrence Friday of a big fire at a Tehran warehouse used according to our sources by the IRGC for crowd dispersal gear.

The ammo base blown up Saturday in the town of Malard in Shahryar district contained large quantities of rubber bullets, tear gas and other ordnance. A short time later, the second explosion hit a light arms depot at a military camp of Bidganeh several kilometers away. That both were accidents is hardly credible.
The two blasts were confirmed by the Iranian lawmaker Hossein Garussi without further details.

Tehran recently broke up an armed dissident group called Oghab. Three members were executed and the others were allowed to flee the country. An organization of that name operates in the United States, but its leader denied involvement in any sabotage operations inside Iran.

Bahrain's Sunni monarchy got help from Saudi Arabia in cracking down on a Shiite-led protest movement ignited by the uprisings sweeping the Arab world. Both nations fear that regional rival and Shiite power Iran is aiding the unrest.

The suspects have been extradited to Bahrain.

9:15 a.m., 22 Aban/November 13 Richard Silverstein, who writes an influential blog on Israel and has credible sources there, reports on a significant claim that the explosion yesterday afternoon at an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) depot was the result of a joint operation by Israel's Mossad and the Mojahedin-e Khalgh Organization (MKO, also referred to as the MEK). According to Silverstein:

An Israeli source with extensive senior political and military experience provides an exclusive report that it was the work of the Mossad in collaboration with the MEK. It is widely known within intelligence circles that the Israeli intelligence agency uses the MEK for varied acts of espionage and terror ranging from fraudulent Iranian memos alleging work on nuclear trigger devices to assassinations of nuclear scientists and bombings of sensitive military installations. A similar act of sabotage happened a little more than a year ago [on October 11, 2010] at another IRG[C] missile base [Imam Ali base in Lorestan province] which killed nearly 20 [the actual toll was 18 dead and 14 injured].

The number of casualties has been a matter of dispute. Originally, it was announced that 27 people had been killed and 23 injured. But Lieutenant General Ramazan Sharif, head of the Guards' public relations department, declared the accurate figures were 17 and 16, respectively. En usko Syyrian,egyptin sun muiden maiden kaltaisiin tapahtumiin. Taustalla on kuitenkin se näkemys että he ovat alueen supervalta,mukamas ja siittä pidetään.

Kaksi vaihtoehtoa mitkä voisivat estää vielä. 1. Usa katsoo Israelin iskun olevan niin suuri uhka lähi-idän ruutitynnyriin,että tekee sen iskun itse. Hyvin epätodennäköistä tämä.

2.Iran tekee koeräjäytyksen ja antaa selvät merkit että paketti on valmis,jolloin Israel ei enään uskalla hyökätä. Todennäköisempi vaihtoehto tämä.

Kolmaskin vaihtoehto on että Israelissa vaihtuisi tavalla tai toisella maltillisempi pääministeri. Nykyinen sotakoira ei aio hyökkäyksestä luopua.
Jos jenkeillä olisi eri puolueen punaniska vallassa voisi olla fiksumpaa ajatella asia niin että kokoavat jumalattoman koalition ja laittavat voimalla Iranin matalaksi eikä kukaan uskalla sanoa mitään. Pitäisivät vielä Israelin ulkopuoella kuten ensimmäisessä irakin sodassa,ette muslimien herkkiä tunteita loukata.

Niin tai näin. Vuosi 2012 on on aikasmoinen.

3. Iranissa asiat muuttuvat. Luultavasti siksi, että siellä tapahtuu jonkinlainen kansannousu tms. ja nykyhallinto korvataan länsimielisemmällä. Tai ainakin, että siellä loppuu rahat ja valtion johto joutuu tekemään myönnytyksiä.

Näin ei käy. Ei vielä. Radio ja televisiokanava vapaa Iran on pommittanut jo kyllä Irania vuosikausia ameriikasta,mutta tuloksetta. Iranin nuorisolla on vähän ristiriitainen elämä. Halutaan että Iran on alueen johtava ja voimakkain valtio joka ei kumartele kenellekkään,mutta samalla olisi kiva vapauksiakin saada ja välillä koitetaan hengen uhalla mieltä osoittaa. En usko Syyrian,egyptin sun muiden maiden kaltaisiin tapahtumiin. Taustalla on kuitenkin se näkemys että he ovat alueen supervalta,mukamas ja siittä pidetään.

Mahdollista sekin, mutta olisitko uskonut sanaakaan, jos viimevuonna joku olisi sanonut, että mitä tänä vuonna tapahtuu?

Joo. Tämä on ollut hullu vuosi. Ensivuosi tulee olemaan hullumpi. Toivotaan vain että ne luonnonkatastrofit jäävät vielä värittämästä. Olisin voinut Egyptin uskoa. Syyriaa en ikinä. Syyriasta dokumentti Syyrian verinen syksy kertoi aika paljon siittä tahtotilasta. Väkijoukko marssi rauhassa kadulla. Ensimmäiset laukaukset kuuluivat,ja ainoa joka hätkähti oli kameramies. Siviilit vain jatkoivat rauhassa marssimistaan.

Rogue states with nascent nuclear weapon programs (cough, Iran, cough), consider yourselves on notice. The Air Force has started taking delivery of Massive Ordnance Penetrators. Yup, the 30,000-pound bunker busters, known as MOPs, designed to penetrate 30 stories of reinforced concrete.

(Oh, and the massive bomb’s name is almost as charged as the term, Pre-Dawn Vertical Insertion, if you get what I’m sayin.)

The service apparently got its first production MOP in September and has been stockpiling them ever since. That’s a decent turnaround since April when the Air Force gave Boeing a $28 million contract to deliver eight MOPs and their associated loading equipment. The service gave Boeing a follow-on $32 million contract for eight more MOPs in August. No word on why that deal cost an extra $4 million when it appears otherwise identical to the April contract.

The Air Force has modified several B-2 stealth bombers to carry two of the GPS-guided bombs, apiece. This pretty much tells you all you need to know about the type of mission the MOP will be used for; a super bunker-buster carried by our most survivable heavy bomber. It’s meant to threaten nations like Iran and North Korea with the prospect of an air strike that can take out their most hardened targets.

I’ve got to say, this is pretty timely, given the recent flood of publicity surrounding Iran’s alleged progress toward building a nuclear weapon. While the MOP is big and costly, the West may have more subtle ways of putting kinetic pressure on states like Iran.

Riippuu tietenkin miten on rakennettu.
Suomalaiseen peruskallioon ei ainakaan jenkkien lelut pysty. Iranin vastaavasta en tiedä.
