Tässä on musiikkia kahden cd:n kokoelmasta "Elvis Presley - Christmas & Gospel Greats". Ensimmäinen cd julkaistiin nimellä "Elvis Chritmas Album" LP-levynä vuonna 1957. Toinen cd julkaistiin nimellä "His hand in mine" myös LP-levynä vuonna 1960.

Elvis Presley syntyi vuonna1935 Mississippissä ja kuoli vuonna 1977 Tennesseessä. Asepalvelus katkaisi Elviksen uran vuonna 1958. Hän näytteli 1950 - ja 1960-luvulla useissa elokuvissa. Tietolähteeni mukaan hän on kaikkien aikojen myydyin artisti. Hän voitti Grammy-palkinnot vuosina 1967, 1972 ja 1974.

75 Original Italian Classics

Ostin verkosta yllämainitun 3 cd:n levykotelon, jossa on 75 italialaisia iskelmiä 1940-, 1950- ja 1960-luvuilta. Olen kuunnellut nyt niistä osan ja tunnelmat palasivat nuoruusaikoihin. Niistä tehtiin tietysti mm. englanniksi ja suomeksi käännösiskelmiä, mutta nyt puhun alkuperäisistä levytyksistä.

Poimin tähän mallikappaleeksi iskelmän nimeltä Come prima. Sen ovat Suomessa (Ensi kerran) esittäneet useat artistit. Italiaksi sen ovat esittäneet mm. Tony Dallara, Domenico Modugno ja Nicola Arigliano. Englannissa sen levytti Malcolm Vaughan yhdessä The Michael Sammes Singers -laulajien kanssa nimellä: "More Than Ever". USA:ssa sen levytti naislaulaja Polly Bergen nimellä: "For the First Time".

Valitsen tähän ostamastani cd-levykokoelmalta Marino Marini Quartet - yhtyeen esitys vuodelta 1958. Tämän videon kuvaruudussa on valokuva laulajista ja iskelmän ääni kuuluu kaiuttimista:

Injustice - It’s sad - but here
The stewardess in a bored voice tells us of the landing,
She’s accessible, like the entire civilian air fleet.

They opened up the farthest nook,
To which rewards don’t beckon,
The closed port of Vladivostok is open,
Paris is open, but I don’t need to go there!

We’ll take off, it’ll clear up - now they’re ending the flight bans!
The liner is bucking, I hear the whine of the turbines...
But I still don’t trust a thing - they won’t take me,
Again they’ll find a bunch of reasons.

I have to go to where there are blizzards and fog,
Where tomorrow they’re expecting snowfall!
They opened London, Delhi, Magadan -
They opened everything, but I don’t need to go there!

I was right, I can laugh or cry, again there’s a flight delay
And they’re taking us back to the past
Well-built, like a "Tupolev", that stewardess Miss Odessa,
Resembles the entire civilian air fleet.

Again a delay until 8 O’Clock -
And the citizens obediently wander away...
I’m annoyed, the devil take it,
And I’ll fly to where they’ll take me!
