Ukraine’s National Guard have detained two journalists from Russian TV channel Zvezda at a military roadblock near the city of Slavyansk. According to their driver, during a routine check they were blindfolded and taken to an undisclosed location.

Video operator Andrey Sushenkov and sound engineer Anton Malyshev have been unreachable since 14:30 GMT Friday afternoon, Zvezda TV announced on its website.The crew was heading from Donetsk to Slavyansk, the scene of intense fighting between the pro-Kiev forces and self-defense militia.
“At the approaches to Slavyansk we got in touch by phone. They said National Guards were searching them and they would call back as soon as the search is over. Since then their numbers are unobtainable,” said Zvezda correspondent Evgeniy Davydov, who was in touch with the crew during their stay in Ukraine.
Their driver, Ruslan Zaslavsky, a local citizen of Slavyansk, was also briefly detained, but released several hours later.
The National Guards have checked the numbers of entry stamps in journalists’ passports with someone they contacted on the radio, before a man in plain military uniform – without a helmet or body armor – took the guys away, Zaslavsky said.
“I saw them putting balaclavas on the guys’ heads, but the wrong way about, so that they could not see anything,” Zaslavsky told Zvezda after his release. “They were forced on their knees.“
The TV crew must have been taken to nearby Kharkov or Izyum, Zaslavsky suggested, as the roadblock was located about 5 kilometers from Slavyansk in the ”middle of nowhere“ – between two fields – and the National Guard did not even have a tent there.
“The channel’s directors call on the newly elected president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko to release Andrey Sushenkov, Anton Malyshev,” the head of Zvezda holding Aleksey Pimanov wrote in a statement, asking the international journalist community for support in securing the release of their colleagues.

This is not the first time Russian journalists working in Ukraine disappear after encountering the National Guard.
On May 18, two Russian journalists working for LifeNews TV channel – reporter Oleg Sidyakin and cameraman Marat Saichenko – were captured by Kiev forces near the eastern city of Kramatorsk. Initially accused of “aiding the terrorist groups,” they were released a week later – without any charges pressed or evidence of their crimes provided – after a wave of outrage by rights groups and Russian politicians and media.
An RT journalist reporting from Ukraine, Graham Phillips, was also detained after a search by the National Guard last month and questioned by various Kiev security forces for over 36 hours before being released.
The area around Slavyansk is gripped by increased violence after Kiev intensified what it calls an ‘anti-terrorist’ operation against anti-government activists and militia who have taken control of the eastern regions of the country as a mark of protest against the Kiev authorities.

A massive blast rocked central Kiev not far from the seats of the presidential administration and the Ukrainian parliament as President Petro Poroshenko was taking his oath of office.
The explosion occurred at about 10:00 am local time (07:00 GMT), just as Poroshenko was entering the Verkhovnaya Rada for his inauguration ceremony.
The vehicle caught on fire. Police have not yet commented on what may have caused the blast.
"The Infiniti-make car belongs to a local, who is around 50 years old," the law enforcers said. Witnesses said the car exploded as it was heading deeper into the center. The traffic was partially sealed off.
The car’s driver, a Ukrainian national, got his thigh broken and severely wounded and two toes ripped off in the blast. He was immediately taken to a local hospital. The police are currently investigating the case.
The car’s plate numbers were consistent with those from the eastern Ukrainian city of Lugansk, which has recently claimed its independence from Kiev, local news outlets claimed.
In April, the central government launched a full-scale military operation in the east, which refused to acknowledge the coup that ousted Viktor Yanukovich. In the snap May 25 election, billionaire Petro Poroshenko won with a landslide.
However, the crackdown on the east did not stop. Since Monday, 13 people have been killed in the Lugansk region by Kiev’s troops, self-defense forces said. Ten of them were civilians.
On Saturday, Poroshenko called for peace and unity in Ukraine and urged the activists in the east to lay down their arms.
"Lay down arms and I guarantee amnesty to all those who do not have blood on their hands or does not provide financial support to terrorists," he said at the ceremony.
However, the head of the People’s Republic of Lugansk, Valery Bolotov, told reporters the new head of state would hardly want to visit the region.
“I don’t think he will want to come while the military operation continues,” Bolotov said. “I don’t see how he is going to restore order here except going on with the military actions.”
Bolotov said negotiations with Kiev wouldn’t start until Kiev troops withdraw from the territory of the Lugansk People’s Republic.

Toinen syys miksi jutut "länsipropagandasta" tuntuvat niin oudoilta: kuka sitä propagandaa sitten ohjailee ja toimittaa? Kun maassa ammutaan ohjuksia, raketteja, tiputetaan lentokoneita ja vallataan lentokenttiä, teloitetaan ihmisiä ja terroristit ottavat kaupunkeja haltuun ja on tullut kuutisensataa ruumista, ei voida edetä siviiliyhteiskuntana kovin tehokkaasti.
Venäjä taas ei halua lisäpakotteita eikä virallisesti katso olevansa missään tekemisissä terroristien kanssa.
Kapinallisten ja Putinin vaatimus on, että kaikki toimet heitä vastaan lopetetaan. Kapinallisten mukaan neuvotella voi vasta, kun kaikki Ukrainan joukot vedetään pois. Tosin sanoen Ukrainan pitäisi hyväksyä terroristit neuvottelukumppaneiksi ja siten tunnustaa Donetskin kansantasavalta a priori.
Terroristeja taas ei voi siivota pois, ellei siviiliväestöä siirretä ja anneta sellaisia voimankäytön valtuuksia, jotka toimivat.
Ymmärrän eskaloitumispelon mutta siihen pelkoon tarttumalla Itä-Ukraina on mennyt. Sen jälkeen levottomuudet levitetään länteen.
Krim sai mennäkin. Olen edelleen sitä mieltä, että se oli kylmää ja kovaa realismia. Mutta Ukrainalla on mahdollisuus pitää muu valtioalue, ja sen pitäisi olla lännen intresseissä. Periaatteessa sen pitäisi olla Venäjänkin intresseissä. Putin on joutunut improvisoimaan ja etsii perääntymistietä. Separatistit jäävät yksin - ellei...
... ellei, kun koko raja on hallussa, kyetä vahvistamaan esim. lisätsetseeneillä Luhansk ja Donetsk pysyvästi riittävän vahvaksi Ukrainalle.

Kyllä ovat Luhanskin alueen raja-asemia. Tarkoitin sitä Luhanskin kaupungin lähellä olevaa raja-asemaa jota Ukrainan hävittäjätkin kävivät pommittamassa.
Näin ainakin ymmärsin tapahtuneen.

The EU has lost control of its foreign policy to Washington, France's National Front leader Marine Le Pen told RT, calling the bloc's diplomacy a “catastrophe” in which no independent voice of reason could be heard.
“The European Union's diplomacy is a catastrophe,” Le Pen told RT's Sophie Shevardnadze in an exclusive interview to be broadcast Monday. “The EU speaks out on foreign affairs either to create problems, or to make them worse.”
Where Ukraine is concerned, Le Pen believes that Europe had no right to blackmail the country into breaking up its historical and cultural ties to Russia.
“When offering a partnership agreement to Ukraine – which would mean breaking off of its allied relations with Russia – the EU has clearly set blackmail in motion. And that can't help but fuel dissent inside the country,” Le Pen told RT, adding that “pouring oil onto the fire” could lead to an increasing risk of a civil war.
“The EU has been doing nothing but making the situation worse using threats, blackmail and sanctions, which, as we can see now, clearly do not encourage anyone to sit at the negotiation table in order to come up with a peaceful and reasonable solution to the conflict.”
As Le Pen sees it, all of this bluster over Ukraine joining the EU has been for not, as the country is far from having the economic development necessary for integration.
“Ukraine’s entry into the European Union; no need to tell fairy tales. Ukraine absolutely does not have the economic level to join the EU.”
Le Pen says she is personally opposed to any expansion of the EU, and would not wish the bloc’s troubles on a country as economically deprived as Ukraine.
“I am sympathetic to Ukrainians, and therefore wouldn’t wish to invite friends to this table of nightmares. I myself want to get out of the EU, so I will not say to them: ‘Come on into the EU,’” she said.
Le Penn, whose National Front party in late May secured a third of France’s seats in the European Parliamentary elections, says the EU's foreign policy has been badly misguided by the United States – Syria and Libya being just some of the most recent examples.
“We've made a great deal of foreign policy mistakes under Washington's influence, but the worst of them is Syria,” Le Penn said.
There are “no independent states left in Europe” that would call for peaceful solutions to conflicts, the National Front leader says.
“We [National Front] have been the only party to stand against the option of intervening in Syria. When the crisis first started, we said France is supplying arms to jihadists, who would spread terror if they win. That's what already happened in Libya.”
“That's the way the US acts in the international arena. But what is even more horrible, is that one can't hear the voices of European countries,” Le Pen added.

“The EU has been doing nothing but making the situation worse using threats, blackmail and sanctions, which, as we can see now, clearly do not encourage anyone to sit at the negotiation table in order to come up with a peaceful and reasonable solution to the conflict.”
As Le Pen sees it, all of this bluster over Ukraine joining the EU has been for not, as the country is far from having the economic development necessary for integration.
“Ukraine’s entry into the European Union; no need to tell fairy tales. Ukraine absolutely does not have the economic level to join the EU.”
Le Pen says she is personally opposed to any expansion of the EU, and would not wish the bloc’s troubles on a country as economically deprived as Ukraine.
“I am sympathetic to Ukrainians, and therefore wouldn’t wish to invite friends to this table of nightmares. I myself want to get out of the EU, so I will not say to them: ‘Come on into the EU,’” she said.
Le Penn, whose National Front party in late May secured a third of France’s seats in the European Parliamentary elections, says the EU's foreign policy has been badly misguided by the United States – Syria and Libya being just some of the most recent examples.
“We've made a great deal of foreign policy mistakes under Washington's influence, but the worst of them is Syria,” Le Penn said.
There are “no independent states left in Europe” that would call for peaceful solutions to conflicts, the National Front leader says.
“We [National Front] have been the only party to stand against the option of intervening in Syria. When the crisis first started, we said France is supplying arms to jihadists, who would spread terror if they win. That's what already happened in Libya.”
“That's the way the US acts in the international arena. But what is even more horrible, is that one can't hear the voices of European countries,” Le Pen added.

Le Penin mielestä Ukrainalla ei ole oikeutta lähentyä Eurooppaa ja EU:n olisi pitänyt kääntää sille selkä, koska Venäjä haluaa pitää kiinni historiallisista siteistään (ja eduistaan).

Ihan oikeassa Le Pen tuossa on. Eikä tarvitse olla Venäjä-mielinen huomatakseen lännen ajavan Ukrainaa tarkoituksella sotaan. Sama temppu tehtiin hetkeä aiemmin Libyassa ja Syyriassa. Ukrainalaisten kannalta ikävämpi juttu.
