B-52:t lienevät tuolla samanlaisessa tukitehtävässä missä niitä on ainakin Afganistanissa käytetty. Niillä on ruuma täynnä JDAMeja ja polttoainetta riittää pyöriä taistelualueen yläpuolella tuntikaupalla. Sieltä ne sitten tarpeen mukaan pudottavat yhden-kaksi täsmäpommia muutaman minuutin vasteajalla. Toimii erittäin hyvin tuollaisessa hitaassa, matalalla intensiteetillä suoritettavassa etenemisessä, kun omilla on ehdoton ilmaherruus.
Tuosta ei näe, onko sen taakse mahdollisesti hetkeä aikaisemmin suojautunut vihamielistä porukkaa tai sieltä ammuttu omia kohti. On saatettu myös päättää räjäyttää se varmuuden vuoksi, siltä varalta että siitä olisi esimerkiksi tehty räjähteillä täytetty mega-IED. Muutoin ovatko tuonmalliset tankkiautot tavallisia tuolla päin maailmaa? Muodoiltaan tuo muistuttaa minusta ponttooniajoneuvoa, eli kokoon taitettu ponttooni kuormurin kyydissä. Tottahan tuo. Tuohon hyökkäykseen liittyy kyllä kaikenlaista mitä ei osaa tulla ajatelleeksi. Jenkit saattavat esimerkiksi pelätä liittolaisten aiheuttavan varomattomuuttaan siviiliuhreja eivätkä siksi halua näiden käyttävän raskaita aseita. Hyökkäykseen myös osallistuu useita ryhmittymiä, joista osa suhtautuu toisiinsa epäluuloisesti tai jopa vihamielisesti. Näiden välisiä voimasuhteita ei varmaankaan haluta keikuttaa antamalla toisille enemmän tulivoimaa. Ja lopuksi vaarana olisi myös aseiden kulkeutuminen sellaisille tahoille, joita jenkit eivät ehkä haluakaan aseistaa. Tulituen toimittaminen perille ilmasta on pätevä keino kiertää näitä ongelmia, kun suurta määrää omia maajoukkojakaan ei haluta paikalle lähettää.

Hyvin perusteltu! Peshmergoilla tosiaan on jotain vanhoja T-tankkeja (yksittäisiä sotasaaliita?) ja videoista päätellen lähinnä aseistetulta mökkisaunalta näyttäviä diy panssaroituja ajoneuvoja, jotka on tehty hummerin/maastoauton/kuorma-auton alustalle. Irakin armeijalla taas on asianmukaisempaa kalustoa, joten juurikin näiden militia-porukoiden kohdalla homma voi mennä juurikin niinkuin sanoit.

Ehkä ilmassa partioiva ja maajoukkoja tukeva pommikoneen/hävittäjän lentäjä on vain huomannut, että koneen polttoaine on vähissä ja ennen paluumatkalle lähtöä tiputtanut jälellä olevan pommin lähimpään kohdetta muistuttavaan (tässä tapauksessa se kantikas tankkeri), ettei tarvi laskeutua pommilastin kanssa. Laitoin englannin kielisen tekstityksen videoon. Joukot pyysivät ilmatukea tuhoamaan kyseisen ajoneuvon, koska epäilivät sen olevan IED:n (oma arvioni on, ajattelivat sen olevan hylätyn VBIED:n).
Mitä olen katsellut kuvia ja videoita alueella käytetyistä VBIED:stä, niin osa on muistuttanut rakenteeltaan videon kantikasta ajoneuvoa. Tästä syystä varmaan epäily IED/VBIED. Todennäköisesti riskittömintä tuhota se ilmaiskulla kun sellainen on saatavilla.

The Mosul liberation offensive finally began yesterday and there are roughly 20,000 Peshmerga fighters involved in it, making it the biggest and maybe the last significant operation against the most dangerous terrorist group in the world.
President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region and the commander of the Peshmerga Masoud Barzani told reporters yesterday that “200 square kilometers [have been] freed from ISIS.”
The Peshmerga, the Iraqi Kurdistan army, started fighting this war against ISIS on behalf of the world. The most prominent leaders of the world have credited them over the past three years for this.
There are many reasons why the world should show great attention to and appreciation for the Peshmerga. The Peshmerga has proved that despite the fact that the majority of them are Muslims and observant, they are ready to fight against religious extremism without any fear or hesitation. There is a large number of Muslims in the world who even if they aren’t affiliated with the extremist group, they are hesitant to fight them.
The Peshmerga fighters are fighting for the sake of every human being regardless of his or her religion, doctrine, ethnicity or skin color. They are fighting for the freedom of everyone.
They have been fighting continuously for more than three years with very limited military resources, equipment and weapons. However, they have never given up. They have never left the front-lines defenseless.
Despite this, the Iraqi central government cut the Peshmerga fighters’ salaries and benefits. However, just like the other employees in the Kurdistan region whose salaries and benefits were cut, they didn't give up.
Even though they have been suffering too much as a result of the deteriorating economic situation, they are now on the outskirts of Mosul battling to take the city back from ISIS. They behave peacefully with all other Iraqi forces and are respecting the rules.
Most of them are living on limited resources but they continue to support their families morally, allowing them to endure the situation. In addition, the Peshmerga has never intended to harm innocent civilians.
While some of Kurdistan parties are contesting one another, they remain united and operate under the Kurdish Peshmerga leadership, which is a unique element in the international US-led coalition against ISIS.
The Kurdistan population and their guests from all corners of the world include nearly 50 consulates, diplomatic missions and foreign countries representatives in Erbil. More than 2 million refugees and displaced people are sheltered in Kurdistan. For the past three years, all of them have been living in peace and safely thanks to the Peshmerga forces despite having direct borders with ISIS.
The Peshmerga deserves the world’s support and respect thanks to their unique morals that are on the verge of extinction in some parts of the world such as loving other human beings, sacrificing by spirit for the sake of humanity, refusing discrimination, believing in freedom for all especially for those who are different from you, fighting not for personal interest and rejecting revenge.
The people of Kurdistan and the world owe the Peshmerga thanks and appreciation for being the fighters who protect peace and freedom.

Battle for Mosul: American news crew caught in exchange of fire
The Iraqi Army, Kurdish Peshmerga and Shiite militias continue to operate in order to expel ISIS from Mosul. This morning, a CNN crew got caught in an exchange of fire just outside of Iraq’s second-largest city.
The extensive battle for Mosul, the second-largest city in Iraq, continues this morning (Tuesday). Iraqi Army forces, Kurdish Peshmerga troops and Shiite militias along with the support of the US-led coalition against ISIS have been operating for over a day in order to expel the murderous terrorist organization from the city. A CNN crew that was accompanying the forces got caught in an exchange of fire with ISIS members.
CNN correspondent Nick Paton Walsh was reporting just outside of Mosul when there was an explosion. CNN stated that none of the crew members were injured. According to reports, at least one Iraqi soldier was killed and another two were injured when a car bomb exploded about 50 kilometers (about 31 miles) outside of the city.
A senior level Iraqi military official said that 10 ISIS members were killed during the battles in the area. Yesterday, Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook said that the “Iraqi forces have met their objectives so far and that they are ahead of schedule for this first day.” However, Cook added that the operation will be difficult and long. So far, the Iraqi forces have regained control of about 100 square kilometers (approximately 38 square miles), expelling ISIS from nine villages.
Yesterday, JOL reported that the operation to liberate Mosul began after several long weeks of preparations.
