This year, car dealerships managed to sell about 0.5 million cars of the 2024 model year. There are still about 100 thousand such cars in stock, Avtostat analysts calculated. At the same time, according to the CEO of the Avtodom group of companies, Andrey Olkhovsky, the total volume of warehouses now amounts to more than 500 thousand cars. According to him, taking into account the volumes that are produced in Russia every month, it will take more than a year to empty these warehouses: “At the current level of sales, about 120 thousand, this is a fairly large volume for several months in advance. These warehouses are located in Russia, so the cars still need to be sold, and new deliveries will most likely be planned for the very beginning of January. After all, the Chinese celebrate the New Year a little later, and they must have time to make shipments before that.
Cars of the next model range will be more expensive due to the rising exchange rate and an increase in the recycling fee. For foreign cars with an engine capacity of 1 to 2 liters - plus 140 thousand rubles in 2026. The import of 3-liter cars will increase in price by about 320 thousand rubles. According to Alexey Podshchekoldin, President of the Russian Automobile Dealers Association, 66 Chinese brands are represented in the Russian Federation, and some dealers still have 2023 stock: “There are small stocks that have not yet proven themselves on the market, for example, Kaiyi, BAIC, BAW and others. The share of "electric cars" in the total volume of the car market is now less than 1%. But this market segment cannot be called unpromising, says Alexey Barmin, Managing Partner of the Prestige-Auto Group of Companies: “Chinese concerns have experienced a large overstocking of warehouses. But our Russian cars, for example, Evolute, have been standing since 2023 and cannot be sold. AITO, in particular, is a good brand, but certain models — M5, M7 — have also been in dealer warehouses since 2023. It so happened that these are not very competitive electric cars. I would not put this in a separate class, for example, electric cars or hybrids. Because in general this segment, although not very strongly supported in Russia, nevertheless, the cars continue to be supplied, since they themselves are quite interesting and economical.”
Over 773 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia in the first eight months of this year, 23% less than in the same period of 2024. According to Frank RG analysts, 70% of car sales are carried out with the use of credit funds. But the approval rate dropped to 39% in September. Market participants agree that sales can be restored only if the Central Bank's key rate is reduced to at least 12%.
