The controversy picked up after Mallory attended a Farrakhan speech last February.

The White House announced Friday that a second summit will take place between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in February.

The announcement came after Trump met with Kim Yong Chol, North Korea's lead negotiator on nuclear talks, for more than 90 minutes at the White House Friday "to discuss denuclearization and a second summit, which will take place near the end of February," according to press secretary Sarah Sanders.

"The President looks forward to meeting with Chairman Kim at a place to be announced at a later date," she added.

Trump welcomed Kim Yong Chol into the Oval Office shortly after the North Korean envoy met with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at a Washington hotel. Pompeo also invited Kim and his delegation to lunch following the White House meeting with Trump.

Kim arrived at Washington Dulles International Airport Thursday evening, bringing with him a letter from Kim Jong Un meant for Trump, a source familiar with the denuclearization talks between the US and North Korea told CNN.

Oikeusministeriehdokas Bill Barr mainitsi juuri tästä asiasta muistiossaan Muellerin tutkinnasta ja teki selväksi että presidentti syyllistyy rikokseen jos pyytää jotakuta valehtelemaan valaehtoisessa lausunnossa.

Amerikkalaislehti Washington Times esittää sivuillaan arvion, jonka mukaan Suomi olisi salakuunnellut Donald Trumpin ja Vladimir Putinin kahdenvälistä keskustelua Helsingin huippukokouksessa viime kesänä.

Kokouksessa Trump ja Putin keskustelivat pitkään pelkästään tulkin läsnä ollessa, joka on herättänyt hämmennystä ja raivoa Yhdysvalloissa, sillä Trump on kieltäytynyt avaamasta keskustelujen sisältöä myöhemmin. Kongressin demokraatit ovat uhanneet haastaa paikalla olleen tulkin valaehtoiseksi todistajaksi saadakseen tietoja presidenttien käymistä keskusteluista.

Washington Timesin haastattelemien amerikkalaisten tiedustelulähteiden mukaan tämä voi olla turhaa, sillä amerikkalaisilla tiedusteluorganisaatioilla todennäköisesti on jo tiedossa, mitä tapaamisessa puhuttiin. Syyksi nimettöminä pysyvät lähteet kertovat sen, että huone, jossa presidentit keskustelivat, oli todennäköisesti varustettu kuuntelulaitteilla.

– On enemmän kuin mahdollista että Suomen tiedustelu oli varustanut huoneen kuuntelulaitteilla, ja he ovat todennäköisesti jakaneet keskustelun sisällön joko suoraan CIA:n tai amerikkalaistiedustelun edustajiin yhteyksissä olevien henkilöiden kanssa, sanoo yksi lehden lähteistä.

Washington Times on Washingtonin alueella päivittäin ilmestyvä, konservatiiviseen suuntaan kallellaan oleva lehti. Barack Obaman kaudella lehti sai julkisuutta julkaistuaan Obamaan liittyviä salaliittoteorioita toistaneita artikkeleita.

Ulkoministeriö kiisti tallentamisen
Presidenttien tapaaminen ilman avustajia ja keskustelujen käyminen ilman virallisia tallenteita puhutti jo kesällä huippukokouksen aikana. Tuolloin Suomen ulkoministeriön viestintäosastolta vakuutettiin, että Suomi noudattaa sekä omissa neuvotteluissaan että neuvottelutiloja muille tarjotessaan sääntöä, jonka mukaan diplomaattisia keskusteluja ei nauhoiteta.

– Neuvotteluita ei nauhoiteta, sillä niin ei yksinkertaisesti diplomatiassa tehdä. Kaikki perustuu korkean tason luottamukseen, jota ei kenelläkään ole varaa rikkoa, ulkoministeriöstä kerrottiin IS:lle.

Myös Suomen entinen Moskovan-suurlähettiläs Hannu Himanen totesi tuolloin, ettei äänitallenteiden teko kuulu korrektiin diplomatiaan.

– Vanhan perinteen mukaan muistiinpanot tehdään yhä käsin, sillä se mahdollistaa vapaammat keskustelut, Himanen selitti.

Periaate ei Himasen mukaan kuitenkaan tarkoita sitä, etteivätkö esimerkiksi suurvallat nauhoittaisi käytyjä keskusteluja. Nykyteknologia mahdollistaa tallenteiden tekemisen eri tavalla kuin menneinä vuosikymmeninä.

Trump tarjosi muurin rahoittamista vastaan jatkoa "Dreamer"-statuksella maassa olevien oleskelulupaan. Demokraatit tuskin suostuvat diiliin ilman että siihen sisältyy dreamereille reitti kansalaisuuden saamiselle. Trump viime vuonna hylkäsi sopimuksen jossa dreamerit olisivat pystyneet saamaan kansalaisuuden ja Trump olisi saanut n. 5x enemmän rahaa muuriin.
President Donald Trump proposed extending protections for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients and individuals with Temporary Protected Status in exchange for border wall funding in remarks Saturday afternoon. The proposed deal, however, will likely be dead on arrival due to a lack of support from Democrats.

The President's latest offer links his demand for $5.7 billion for a border wall to the BRIDGE Act, legislation that would extend protections for so-called "Dreamers," undocumented immigrants who arrived in the US as children and are covered by the DACA program.

The compromise proposal would also allow immigrants covered by Temporary Protected Status -- some of whose protections Trump has rescinded -- to remain in the country.

The proposal also includes $800 million for urgent humanitarian assistance and $805 million for drug detection technology to secure ports of entry, as well additional border agents, law enforcement officials and new immigration judge teams to deal with cases of migrants crossing the US-Mexico border.

Trump called it a "common sense compromise both parties should embrace" and touted the proposal as "straightforward, fair, reasonable and common sense, with lots of compromise."

While early last year Democratic senators worked on a deal with Republicans which offered $25 billion in border funding in exchange for a permanent path to citizenship for some 1.8 million Dreamers (an offer rejected by the President), the new offer expected to be put on the table by Trump would only extend temporary status, not citizenship, to DACA and TPS recipients.
The lack of a path to citizenship is a nonstarter for Democrats.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a statement Saturday that initial reports of the proposed deal "make clear that his proposal is a compilation of several previously rejected initiatives, each of which is unacceptable and in total, do not represent a good faith effort to restore certainty to people's lives."

"It is unlikely that any one of these provisions alone would pass the House, and taken together, they are a non-starter. For one thing, this proposal does not include the permanent solution for the Dreamers and TPS recipients that our country needs and supports," Pelosi added.

Trump, in his remarks, said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will be bringing the proposal to the Senate floor for a vote next week. The President also pledged to convene weekly bipartisan meetings at the White House to work on a "finished product" for immigration reform.

McConnell, who confirmed that he'll bring the legislation to a vote this week, praised the President's plan.

"Unlike the bills that have come from the House over the past few weeks, this proposal could actually resolve this impasse. It has the full support of the President and could be signed into law to quickly reopen the government," McConnell said in a statement.

"Everyone has made their point — now it's time to make a law," he continued. "With bipartisan cooperation, the Senate can send a bill to the House quickly so that they can take action as well. The situation for furloughed employees isn't getting any brighter and the crisis at the border isn't improved by show votes. But the President's plan is a path toward addressing both issues quickly."

And despite co-sponsoring the BRIDGE Act, Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin said in a statement Saturday that he would not support the upcoming proposal to reopen the government.

"First, President Trump and Senate Majority Leader McConnell must open the government today. Second, I cannot support the proposed offer as reported and do not believe it can pass the Senate. Third, I am ready to sit down at any time after the government is opened and work to resolve all outstanding issues," Durbin said.

"Democrats were not consulted on this and have rejected similar overtures in the past. It's clearly a Republican-and-Republican negotiation," a Democratic congressional aide with direct knowledge of negotiations told CNN.

President Donald Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani said Sunday that plans to build a Trump Tower in Moscow remained an “active proposal” as late as November of 2016, leaving open the possibility that Trump’s family-led company continued to pursue the business deal up until the presidential election, months later than previously known.

Appearing on NBC's “Meet the Press,” Giuliani said the president has told him he can “remember having conversations” with his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, about the project well into 2016. Cohen has pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about the timeline of his involvement in that proposal, admitting that he worked on it through June of 2016 after initially saying it ended at the beginning of that year.

“It's our understanding that they went on throughout 2016," Giuliani said of the discussions, adding that there "weren't a lot of them, but there were conversations. Can't be sure of the exact date."

"Probably could be up to as far as October, November — our answers cover until the election," he said, referring to written questions Trump and his lawyers have answered from special counsel Robert Mueller's office. "So anytime during that period they could've talked about it. But the president's recollection of it is that the thing had petered out quite a bit.”

"I would say Michael Cohen would have a much better recollection of it than the president," Giuliani added. "It was much more important to him. That was his sole mission. The president was running for president of the United States. So you have to expect there's not going to be a great deal of concentration on a project that never went anywhere."
