Russian President Vladimir Putin has revealed the size of the joint group of Russian troops in the Northern Military District. This was reported by the Zvezda TV channel on Telegram.
Over 700,000 soldiers and officers are in the combat zone, the head of state announced at a meeting with the leaders of political party factions in the State Duma.
On September 18, it was announced that Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov could receive a five-year extension of his term of service. He is in charge of the joint group of Russian troops in the Northern Military District.
Earlier, Vladimir Putin spoke about the role of the Russian capital in the context of the special operation. He noted that Moscow has become a reliable base for Russian soldiers. At the same time, he noted, tens of thousands of Muscovites are fighting on the front lines.
