Minister: No Leopard tanks for sale
April 4, 2017
Maybe the Danish People's Party's defense spokesman, Marie Krarup,
would like to rebuild the Danish defense by buying used tanks and infantry vehicles in Germany and the Netherlands, as several Baltic and Eastern European countries have done. The problem is just that there is no one for sale right now
Defense Minister Claus Hjort Frederiksen in reply to the parliamentary defense committee:
"The Ministry of Defense's Material and Purchasing Board has investigated the possibility of acquiring used Leopard2A6 tanks from Germany and the Netherlands respectively. The authorities of the Ministry of Defense of the Ministry of Defense and similar authorities in Germany and the Netherlands state that there are no used tanks for sale, "the minister writes in
his reply regarding a possible acquisition of Leopard tanks.
Marie Krarup had in his question written that there were Leopards in stock in Germany and the Netherlands. But that's not the case, the minister states. And if it were, it would be a good idea to update them to the version that the Danish Leopards are.
"The Ministry of Defense's Material and Purchasing Board estimates that on average it will cost approx. 40 million. per. Tanks to upgrade from the A6 to the ongoing upgrading of the army's Leopard2 tanks, named A7, and with an associated operating cost of approx. 1 million Annually per tank. The price will depend on many conditions, including how many tanks are upgraded, "the minister points out.
With regard to infantry vehicles of the type CV9035 - as Denmark itself has - Holland has recently sold some of them to Estonia. If you have to believe the minister, however, the Dutch have no more for sale.
"The Ministry of Defense's Material and Purchasing Board has investigated the possibility of acquiring used CV 9035NL infantry vehicles. The Ministry of Defense and the Danish Ministry of Defense, the corresponding authority in the Netherlands, states that there are no used infantry vehicles for sale. Based on the above, it is not possible to estimate a price as requested, "the minister writes
in a reply .
Tanks and infantry vehicles were not the only Marie Krarup had asked the minister to investigate the possibilities of purchasing used. Also, the so-called MLRS rocket batteries (Multiple Launch Rocket System), Krarup could well appreciate a price. In her question, she stated that the United States has a number of systems standing at the depot. However, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Defense has failed to obtain the information confirmed and investigate whether the Americans will sell and at what price.
The minister, however, is bidding on a price for procuring the system that Denmark paradoxically had until we sold it to Finland in 2013.
"The Defense Material Services (now the Ministry of Defense and Food and Purchasing) received an offer in 2008 that it showed that the price of the actual update for Denmark's 12 thrift ramps (which together constitute one system) converted to price level 2017 is expected to be approx. 365 million. The price in 2017 level of rockets for the 12 launch ramps is totaled approx. 151 million Finally, it can be stated that based on information from suppliers as well as a number of assumptions / assumptions, Life-Cycle-Cost calculations have been prepared which show annual operating expenses corresponding to approx. 10.5 million. Yearly for the 12 launches in 2017 price levels, "the minister writes
in a reply that does not give much response to what the MLRS systems will cost to purchase.
That is the case with the minister:
"It has not been possible within the present time to obtain price estimates for the purchase of used MLRS systems. In view of the above, it is thus not possible to estimate a price as requested. The Board has been asked to seek the desired price estimate, which will be submitted subsequently, referring to this reply, "writes Defense Minister Claus Hjort Frederiksen.
It will be so exciting to see if there are MLRSs for sale at all and for what price.
Marie Krarup is probably asking for the prices of used military equipment to prepare for the autumn defense negotiations. In this case, it may be smart to have a response from the minister even if you negotiate a purchase of used tanks on the track. In roughly the same way, the Conservatives' defense spokesman Rasmus Jarlov is making the ground for something about submarines in the settlement. Not a new acquisition in the billionth grade, but maybe initially just a study of the possibilities for rebuilding submarines and what capabilities it would add. In the fertilizer work, Jarlov has taken the defense committee to hold a hearing on submarines in the parliament during the spring.
