Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa has confirmed that the country will supply Ukraine with Finnish Patria 6x6 armoured personnel carriers in 2025.
The supply of Patria 6x6s in unknown numbers is part of the €40 million aid package, including small-sized UAVs and training for 4000+ Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel. The aid goal for 2024 is aimed at €112 million, and 2026 is also expected to include a series of aids.
Patria 6x6 was developed as a lighter alternative to the AMV 8x8 armoured vehicle. The vehicle is in service with Latvia as an armoured personnel carrier with 8-10 passengers capacity. Armour provides protection ranging from STANAG 4569 Level 2 (6 kg mine and 7.62x39 mm API rounds) to Level 4 (10 kg mine and 14.5x114 mm AP rounds).
Ukraine is receiving armoured fighting vehicles from the EU, the U.S., and countries that have retired their Soviet-era equipment. Some of these platforms include M113 APCs (Multiple), M2 Bradley IFVs (the U.S.), CV90 IFVs (Sweden), AMX-10RC fire support vehicles (France), BMP-1 IFVs (Multiple), and Marder IFVs (Germany).
