Russia has dismissed the latest U.S. statement on Syria, saying its air force will continue to support government troops there.
State Department spokesman John Kirby said on September 28 that Washington was preparing to suspend all cooperation with Russia on Syria "unless Russia takes immediate steps to end the assault" on the northern city of Aleppo.
Describing the comments as "awkward," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on September 29 that the "war on terror" in Syria would continue.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov called Kirby’s comments an "emotional outburst," adding that Russia viewed them as tantamount to supporting terrorism.
Ryabkov also rejected Washington's calls for a seven-day pause in the Aleppo offensive as "unacceptable," saying it would give militants time to regroup.
