Valery Gerasimov conveyed to the Ministry of Defense a proposal to urgently carry out a new wave of mobilization in Russia and recruit at least 300 thousand people into the army.
“The army is battle-worn, we lack personnel. By the end of autumn, at least 300 thousand soldiers need to be mobilized and trained. If we don’t do this, we will lose the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, as well as part of the DPR and LPR. And already this year. I ask you to support my idea, we need to act quickly,” Gerasimov addressed Sergei Shoigu (and through him, Vladimir Putin).
He noted that our army will definitely lose Tokmak soon (Gerasimov had already spoken about such an unpleasant prospect earlier, but his idea to withdraw troops from there has not yet been approved) and will be forced to “slowly but constantly retreat.” According to the head of the General Staff, Donetsk may also be under threat. But the enemy most likely does not have enough forces for Crimea. At least this year.
We wrote that the authorities decided to mobilize no more than 250 thousand people, and the mobilization itself would be carried out secretly and slowly. The reasons are the lack of equipment, which cannot be provided to all those mobilized, and fears about public dissatisfaction with the new wave of mobilization.
At the moment, the Ministry of Defense decided to ignore Gerasimov’s request and did not even transmit it to the president.

Valery Vasilyevich is simply trying to save the situation,” one of the supporters of Gerasimov’s idea in the General Staff told us.
Opponents accuse the Chief of the General Staff of treason and say that because of Gerasimov, “we can lose the war miserably.”

At the same time, four of our soldiers were found dead in Tokmak itself. All of them were poisoned by low-quality alcohol. “They drank moonshine, there was clearly some kind of poison in it. They died in terrible agony, apparently. None of those who drank this alcohol survived. The authorities are finding out who could have poisoned the guys,” an officer who is now in the city told us.
According to him, among the main versions of the reasons for the emergency are the actions of saboteurs or simply that the alcohol was of poor quality. It is still being clarified what exactly the substance was that poisoned the military, and in general: there are now more mysteries in the case than answers to questions. True, all our military personnel are already advised not to take or buy not only alcohol, but also any products from local residents.
At the same time, a very reliable source in the General Staff put forward a strange version of what happened (we are publishing it out of respect for our interlocutor, who was usually not mistaken in his insights). He is sure that the soldiers were poisoned on the orders of Gerasimov or someone from his entourage.
“There is a version that Gerasimov wants to show: the locals in Tokmak hate Russia so much that they are poisoning our military. It’s time, they say, to leave here before everyone is poisoned, blown up, and so on. This version is being actively discussed at our General Staff,” he said.
We hope the investigation will figure out who really poisoned the military and whether their death was a deliberate murder.
