The DPR spoke about the ineffectiveness of Western Leopard 2 tanks
German Leopard 2 tanks, which are supplied to Ukraine from Western countries, have proven to be ineffective on the line of combat contact. The reason for this was a number of technical features, adviser to the head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) Yan Gagin reported on October 31.
According to Gagin, Leopard 2 does not have sufficient maneuverability and hull strength. In addition, these tanks weigh a lot, and their off-road capability is extremely mediocre.
“It (the Leopard 2 tank - Ed.) cannot be repaired in the fields, only dragged from the battlefield to the repair zone, where it must be serviced by specially trained people using all the necessary repair kit,” TASS quotes the adviser to the head of the DPR .
Gagin also noted that soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are dying not only as part of the crews of German tanks, but also when trying to evacuate Leopard 2 from the battlefield.
Earlier, on October 29, military observer David Ax said that Western countries were replacing the German Leopard 2 tanks lost by Ukraine with Soviet modernized T-72s. In the warehouses of the countries of the former Warsaw Pact there are several hundred T-72M tanks, which, presumably, can become the basis for modernization and further shipment to Ukraine.
On the same day, units of the 1430th Regiment of the Russian Armed Forces destroyed an armored group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) consisting of two Leopard tanks and two Bradley infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs).
The special operation to protect Donbass , the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24 last year, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of an aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
