It became known how the crew of the Su-24 aviation PMC "Wagner" died
The details of the last air battle of the Su-24 crew as part of the crew commander and navigator were reported by the Brussels Svyazny Telegram channel, which is run by a military commander, a specialist in the military-political activity of NATO and Western countries Alexander Simonov. According to him, Alexander Antonov and Vladimir Nikishin died near Artemovsk (Bakhmut). They repeated the feat of Nikolai Gastello, who during the Great Patriotic War sent his burning plane to the accumulation of enemy equipment.
On December 2, the Su-24 carried out a combat mission in the Kleshcheevka area. At this time, the enemy attempted an armored breakthrough, which threatened the positions of the Wagner PMC. The commander of one of the assault detachments redirected the crew of the Su-24M to the enemy armored column, the military commander writes.
To do this, the aircraft had to fly into the depths of the enemy’s defense, that is, to fly at low altitude, under fire from man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS). “Understanding all the risks associated with this, the crew decided to continue the combat flight and destroy the newly identified target,” says the military commander. - When turning to a combat course, the aircraft was hit by a MANPADS. The observation post of one of the assault detachments reported to the commander that he saw an aircraft blown up in the air and its descent into the area of the enemy column.
According to Alexander Simonov, the plane crashed into a cluster of armored vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. “As a result of the heroic actions of the crew, the enemy’s armored breakthrough did not work out, the positions of the advanced assault groups were saved,” the military commander notes. According to him, the pilots, before the fall of the burning plane, managed to shout on the radio so that the enemy would “meet” them on the ground.
“I am deeply convinced that Antonov Alexander Sergeevich and Nikishin Vladimir Nikolaevich deserve to be awarded the title of Hero of Russia. Posthumously,” concludes the military commander.
Captain Nikolai Gastello was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on July 26, 1941. In total, more than 600 air rams were made during the war years.
