Interflex: a deployment with impact.

90 men and women from 13 Light Brigade contributed to Operation Interflex for four months. The team has twice trained a batch of Ukrainian trainees to become basic infantrymen in five weeks. The lessons are based on experiences in Ukraine.

After five weeks of training, the Ukrainian soldiers will return to the front in their own country. In the video, Sergeant Nick of 17 Armored Infantry tells how he experienced these months. In just 5 weeks, the Ukrainians must be ready to go back to Ukraine. In addition to basic military skills, they are taught how to operate in urban areas. Very challenging, but also meaningful work for our Dutch soldiers.

“Teaching recruits a set of basic skills and infantry skills in such a short time is a challenge. Then you don't want to waste a minute. The realization that we are training people who will actually fight in a war gives a great sense of responsibility and significance,” says Captain Mark, Charlie Company Commander.

The deployment came in the battalion's path last summer. At that time, the Charlie 'Beren' company was still all about readiness for the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), NATO's rapidly deployable unit. “So that was a quick switch. The training program for the Ukrainian volunteers had already been extended from three to five weeks. For us, this meant more time, more depth and efficiency in the training. Intuitively, that also remains short to get civilians completely ready for the fight. But the trainees are very eager to learn, they are very driven."

Operation Interflex stems from an offer by then Prime Minister Boris Johnson to President Zelensky of Ukraine to provide training for recruits. Most of the training facilities in the war-ravaged country are no longer operational. So that is now happening at four locations in the United Kingdom, through a large number of partner countries. The Dutch unit, about ninety strong, is a guest on the Yorkshire Dales and placed under the command of the Light Dragoons, a cavalry reconnaissance unit within the British army. “On this base we also work together with a company from the Norwegian Telemark Battalion”, explains Captain Mark. “We benefit from this international cooperation. We learn a lot from each other and pick up improvements in training from each other. So you shouldn't just try to push through the Dutch way of working. We learn a lot from the Ukrainian instructors here. They have experience at the front. Based on their findings, you can see whether the doctrines of our army need to be adjusted.”

A group of men, who are restricted from leaving Ukraine due to their age during martial law, were stopped yesterday a kilometer from the border with Hungary, in the area of the village of Vylok, Berehiv district.
The law enforcement officers established that a native of Luhansk and five residents of Transcarpathia organized the riot. The day before, the evaders were taken to the border, where they planned to cross the river using an inflatable boat. For such a "voyage" each of the detainees had to pay dealers up to 5,000 US dollars. The extras in the case were caught red-handed - during an attempt to move citizens across the border. In the near future, they will be notified of the suspicion and a preventive measure will be chosen. It is worth noting that one of the participants in the case is under consideration in the courts for several criminal proceedings for committing drug crimes as part of an organized criminal group.
Also, in the course of urgent investigative actions, a joint interdepartmental group conducted a number of searches in the private homes of those involved in the investigation, as a result of which money, mobile phones and vehicles used for illegal purposes were seized.
Measures to expose the criminal group and detain offenders were carried out by operatives of the Chopsky and Mukachevo border detachments together with employees of the Uzhhorod District Police Department and the Migration Police Department of the National Security Service of Transcarpathia in Zakarpattia Oblast under the procedural guidance of the Uzhhorod District Prosecutor's Office within the framework of criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code "Illegal transit persons across the state border of Ukraine".

The man is currently under arrest.
According to this fact, criminal proceedings have been opened under Art. 263 (Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) and Art. 309 (Illegal production, manufacturing, acquisition, storage, transportation or forwarding of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues without the purpose of sale) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
