President Donald Trump’s anticipated trip to Britain seems to be off, following no mention of the trip during Queen Elizabeth II’s address before parliament on Wednesday.

Known as the Queen’s Speech, the address traditionally serves as the main event during the opening of parliament, during which Britain’s monarch delivers a speech on behalf of the government, laying out planned-for legislation. Upcoming state visits from foreign leaders are also typically mentioned during the event. But the Queen failed to note Trump was coming — leading many commentators to conclude the trip may be off.

Fire toxicity experts in Britain told Sky News that the insulation boards of Grenfell Tower burned during the fire and released cyanide gas, which most likely contributed to the high death toll. A London hospital told the British news agency that a few of the victims who were cared for at the hospital were treated with the hydrogen cyanide antidote.

New details about the Grenfell fire, which claimed the lives of 79 people about a week ago, have come to light. Experts in London are claiming that when the insulation boards, which were installed during renovations, burned, cyanide gas was released, which led to the death of at least some of the victims.

The fire toxicity experts told Sky News that the insulation boards were installed on the building exterior. It appears that due to the insulation boards’ problematic location, the apartments in the tower filled up with a lethal amount of hydrogen cyanide gas. However, due to the condition of some of the bodies, it may be impossible to actually determine what role the gas played in their death.

“The outside wall of the building had 150mm of PIR foam (fitted), and once the fire had spread to that, every flat would have its own source of PIR foam, which would have produced enough hydrogen cyanide to kill all the people in that flat,” said Richard Hull, professor of chemistry and fire science at a university in the UK.

A London hospital told Sky News that three of the 12 victims who were cared for at the hospital were treated with Cyanokit, the hydrogen cyanide antidote. However, four other hospitals that treated victims from the fire refused to reveal details about their treatment.

Ihan puhtaasti mutua ja ei ole omakohtaista kokemusta saarivaltakunnan rakennuskulttuurista, mutta taitaa olla melkoinen kehitysmaa tuo britannnia rakentamisen alalla: Kaasuhellat, lämmitysjärjestelmät taloissa kun vanhukset paleltuvat koteihinsa hallaöinä,vesihanat, sähköistykset.. Kuulin joskus yhdeltä PK-seudun alan insinöörismieheltä että kun oli kyseessä olevan saarivaltion insinöörismies käymässä Suomessa niin sille esiteltiin Suomen kaukolämpölämmitystä. Oli kuulemma ollut huulipyöreänä siitä että kuinka hieno keksintö kaukolämpö onkaan ja ihmettelynsä lopuksi oli kysynyt suomalaiselta että onko tämä kuinka tuore keksintö. Suomalainen oli vastannut vähän vaikeana että nooh, onhan tämä meillä ollut 50-luvulta asti käytössä. Että joo...

Jeps, käsitykseni mukaan varsinkin nuo vanhemmat eristemateriaalit eivät tuota järin terveellisiä aineita palaessaan. Nykyisin noiden vaatimuksia sekä savuntuotannon, palokaasujen myrkyllisyyden että syttymisen ja esimerkiksi pisaroiden muodostumisen osalta on kiristetty huomattavasti.

Lisäksi rakennuksen eristeiden testaukset olivat puutteellisia, ja Lontoon poliisi harkitsee nostavansa syytteen kuolemantuottamuksesta.

Grenfell Towerin palo sai alkunsa viime viiikon keskiviikon vastaisena yönä.

Police chiefs will consider the possibility of offering a gun to every frontline police officer in England and Wales, to counter the threat of a marauding terrorist attack, the Guardian has learned.

A discussion paper on the subject has been drawn up for the next meeting of the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC), which wants to look at how to boost armed police numbers to deal with a crisis, following the atrocities in Manchester and London.

The paper is intended to start a debate on the issue among police leaders at the two-day meeting that starts on 12 July – although it is thought at this stage unlikely that any wider arming will be agreed upon. Routine arming is controversial within policing and many do not support it.

One option in the paper for getting armed officers more quickly to the scene of an attack is for officers to be offered a sidearm, like officers in the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).

The paper also suggests that beat officers who are now unarmed would get about two weeks of training in how to use a handgun. That is much less training than the six weeks for fully qualified armed officers.

The beat officers would then get a day of refresher training and re-accreditation twice a year. The upside of this option is that police chiefs might get enough officers volunteering, and it would boost the number of officers who can handle a gun in a crisis more quickly than other options.

Lontoon Camdenissa evakuoitu 650 kotia – paloturvallisuuspuutteita havaittu 27 tornitalossa

Lontoossa Camdenin viranomaiset kertovat evakuoineensa 650 asuntoa sen jälkeen, kun palotarkastajat havaitsivat puutteita viidestä tornitalosta.

Alunperin ilmoitettiin, että evakuointi koskee yhteensä 800 asuntoa.

BBC:n mukaan 83 ihmistä on kieltäytynyt lähtemästä kodeistaan.

Osa evakuoiduista on majoitettu väliaikaismajoitukseen, osa hotelleihin.

Camdenin paikallishallinto huolehtii evaluoitujen auttamisesta yhdessä poliisin, palokunnan ja Punaisen Ristin kanssa.

Viidestä tornitalosta päätettiin poistaa ulkopuoliset lämpöverhoukset, koska niissä on samanlainen päällyste kuin Grenfell Tower -tornitalossa, joka tuhoutui tulipalossa viime viikon keskiviikkona. Tulipalossa kuoli 79 ihmistä.

Töiden arvioidaan kestävän kahdesta kolmeen viikkoon.

Viranomaiset ilmoittivat perjantaina Grenfell Towerin palon saaneen alkunsa viallisesta jääkaappi-pakastimesta. Talon eristeet ja päällysteet eivät läpäisseet turvallisuustestejä.

Yhteensä 27 tornitalon päällysteet eivät ole viranomaisten mukaan läpäisseet paloturvallisuustestejä Britanniassa. Taloja on 15 alueella, Lontoon lisäksi muun muassa Manchesterissa ja Plymouthissa.

Armed police at scene after 'car crashes into multiple people after Eid prayers in Newcastle'

Five people have been hurt after a car crashed into a crowd gathering for Eid prayers in Newcastle.

Young children were reportedly among those injured but police said the collision is not believed to be terror-related.

A 42-year-old woman has been arrested.

Emergency services were dispatched to the site of the collision on Westgate Road, near Westgate Community College, shortly after 9am this morning

A police spokesperson said: "On Sunday June 25, at approx 9.14am Northumbria Police received reports that a vehicle had collided with pedestrians outside of Westgate Sports Centre, Newcastle upon Tyne.

"Police inquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what happened but, at this time, it is not believed to be a terror incident.

"Emergency services are currently at the scene and five casualties have been confirmed.

Captain Jerry Kyd seems remarkably relaxed given he is scheduled on Monday to take to sea for the first time one of the biggest and most expensive defence projects in British history, the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth.

To reach open sea, he will have to conduct two complicated manoeuvres, firstly to take it from the Rosyth dockyard basin where the carrier was built and then under the three Forth bridges. The calculations are fine but the prospect of miscalculation does not appear to scare him.

As well as all the electronic devices available to him, he will make a gesture towards tradition, conducting a final check with an instrument used by mariners since at least the 18th century, a sextant, before heading under the bridges.

The gap could be so small, even with the mast lowered, that he joked he might be able to run his fingers under the bridge. And what will he do if he gets the calculation wrong? “Duck,” he said.

Work began in 2009 on the £3.5bn carrier, which has been dogged by delays and overruns in cost and questions over whether there will be enough money to put a full complement of planes aboard.
