Venäjä jatkaa juupas-eipäs-lausuntoja ohjuskaupoista
Venäjän pääministeri Vladimir Putin on vahvistanut, ettei maa aio myydä S-300-ilmatorjuntaohjuksia Iranille.
Virkamieslähteen mukaan Putin kertoi asiasta Ranskan presidentille Nicolas Sarkozylle vieraillessaan Pariisissa perjantaina.
Venäläiset antoivat torstaina ohjuskaupoista ristiriitaisia tietoja. Ensin uutistoimisto Interfax kertoi, että ohjustoimitukset jäädytetään YK:n turvallisuusneuvoston uusien pakotteiden vuoksi, mutta myöhemmin maan ulkoministeriö vakuutti, että kaupat toteutuvat sovitusti.
Sarkozyn kanslian mukaan Putin sanoi iranilaisten olevan erittäin närkästyneitä ja vaativan korvauksia sopimusrikosta.
Iran ja Venäjä sopivat S-300-ohjusten myynnistä jo vuosia sitten, mutta ohjuksia ei ole toimitettu lännen painostuksen vuoksi. Länsimaat pelkäävät, että Iran voisi käyttää ohjuksia ydinlaitostensa suojaamiseen.
S-300 on liikuteltava pitkänmatkan ohjustorjuntajärjestelmä, jota voidaan käyttää ballistisia ohjuksia, risteilyohjuksia ja matalalla lentäviä taistelukoneita vastaan.

Russia to offer Turkey advanced surface-to-air missiles
Russia is ready to participate in a tender to offer Turkey S-300 and S-400 surface-to-air missile systems, the state-controlled arms exporter said on Wednesday.
"The Turkish military has a great need for S-300 and S-400 long-range missile defense systems," Rosoboronexport CEO Anatoly Isaikin said. "Russia has expressed its readiness to participate in a tender for the delivery of such systems."
He said leading SAM manufacturers from Western countries would participate in the tender "on a par with Russia."
He gave no indication as to what specific SAM modifications would be offered or the timeframe for the tender.
Turkish military experts have said Ankara is interested in the Russian missiles, which could effectively protect the country's southern borders.
The advanced version of the S-300 missile system, called S-300PMU1, has a range of over 150 kilometers (over 100 miles) and can intercept ballistic missiles and aircraft at low and high altitudes, making it effective in warding off air strikes.
The S-300V/Antey 2500 (SA-12 Gladiator/Giant) consists of a new command vehicle, an array of advanced radars and up to six loader vehicles assigned to each launcher.
The S-400 (SA-21 Growler) is capable of simultaneously engaging six targets to a range of 400 km (250 miles) and an altitude up to 30 kilometers, including aircraft, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles.

Russia's fifth generation fighter will be about three times as cheap as its foreign analog, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said on Thursday.
He observed the test flight of a prototype fighter and later talked to the pilot, Sergei Bogdan.
"It will be a machine superior to our main competitor, the F-22, in maneuverability, armament and range," Putin said.
"Also in morale," the pilot added.
"Above all else," Putin said smiling.
Bogdan said it was the fighter's 16th test flight and more would follow shortly.
The prime minister said 30 billion rubles (around $1 billion) had already been spent on the project and another 30 billion would be required to complete it, after which the engine, weaponry and other components would be upgraded.
He said, factoring in modernization and upgrades, the fighter will have a service life of 30-35 years.
Russia's only known fifth-generation project is Sukhoi's PAK FA and the current prototype is the T-50. It is designed to compete with the U.S. F-22 Raptor, so far the world's only fifth-generation fighter, and the F-35 Lightning II.
Russia has been developing its newest fighter since the 1990s. The country's top military officials earlier said the stealth fighter jet with a range of up to 5,500 km would enter service with the Air Force in 2015.
The PAK FA is to be armed with next-generation air-to-air, air-to-surface, and air-to-ship missiles, and has two 30-mm cannons.

Kovin vaikuttaa halvalta ollakseen kovinkaan häävi vehje. Jos länsimaisen häivekoneen suunnittelu maksaa kymmenen kertaa enemmän, niin ei silloin ole kyse pelkästä palkkatasosta. Pikemminkin ero on ehkä siinä, että venäläiset suunnittelevat juuri niin hyvän koneen, kuin heillä olemassa oleva teknologia mahdollistaa. Lännessä puolestaan on asetettu tavoitteet suorituskyvyn suhteen ja teknologia kehitetään vaaditulle tasolle.

Russia's new generation S-500 air defense system will resolve the country's missile defense problems when it enters service, Air Force Commander Colonel General Alexander Zelin said on Tuesday.
"The S-500 air defense system is a system that will solve Russia's missile defense problems," Zelin said.
Answering a question about the S-500's technical specifications, Zelin said: "I would not compare the S-500 with the U.S. missile defense since they have different technical characteristics".
The S-500 is expected to have an extended range of up to 600 km (over 370 miles) and simultaneously engage up to 10 targets. The system will be capable of destroying hypersonic and ballistic targets.
He also added that two S-400 long-range missile defense systems would be delivered to the Far East by the end of 2010.
"We are planning to put two S-400s on combat duty at the Vostok strategic command," Zelin said.

"The S-500 air defense system is a system that will solve Russia's missile defense problems," Zelin said.
