Kenraali lyttää amerikkalaisten luodit tehottomiksi - ottaako USA pian mallia Suomesta?

Perjantai 26.5.2017 klo 19.02

Steep Rise In Interracial Marriages Among Newlyweds 50 Years After They Became Legal
Close to 50 years after interracial marriages became legal across the U.S., the share of newlyweds married to a spouse of a different race or ethnicity has increased more than five times — from 3 percent in 1967, to 17 percent in 2015, according to a new report by the Pew Research Center.

The Pew report comes about a month before the 50th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Loving v. Virginia. Mildred Loving, a part-Native American, part-black woman, and Richard Loving, a white man, landed in a Virginia county jail for getting married. Today, one in six newlyweds marry someone outside their race, which appears to allude to a more accepting society.

Among adults who are not black, there's a shrinking share of those who say they would be opposed to having a close relative marrying someone who is black — from 63 percent in 1990, to 14 percent in 2016. The share of people who oppose marriages with Asian or Hispanic people has also dropped from about one in five to around one in ten adults not in those groups. Among those who are not white, the share opposed to a relative marrying a white person has dropped from 7 percent to 4 percent

Pentagon testaa ohjustorjuntajärjestelmäänsä.

As tensions with North Korea grow: US to test upgraded anti-missile system
The Pentagon will attempt to shoot down an intercontinental ballistic missile using its upgraded anti-missile system for the first time today. The test comes amid the growing tensions between the US and North Korea. However, the Pentagon clarified that the decision to carry out the test was not solely based on the threat from Pyongyang. The Pentagon has announced that it will attempt to shoot down an intercontinental ballistic missile for the first time using its upgraded long-range missile interceptor on Tuesday. The test will be carried out above the Pacific Ocean.

The trial is widely being considered a test of America’s readiness and ability to deal with the possibility of a North Korean missile launch toward the US mainland. However, the Pentagon clarified that the decision to carry out the test was not solely made based on the threat from Pyongyang.

During today’s test, an interceptor missile will be launched from an air force base in California. The simulated threat missile will be launched from the Marshall Islands.

Yesterday, North Korea tested another ballistic missile, which landed in the Sea of Japan, in the country’s ninth missile trial since the beginning of 2017. According to North Korea’s KCNA news agency, the country’s leader Kim Jong-Un supervised the test. US President Donald Trump condemned the test on Twitter, saying that Kim disrespected China by testing yet another missile.

North Korea has shown great disrespect for their neighbor, China, by shooting off yet another ballistic missile...but China is trying hard!

B-2 Spirit Stealth Bombers Arrive in England
By Air Force Maj. Jeffrey M. Bishop U.S. Air Forces in Europe-Air Forces Africa

ROYAL AIR FORCE FAIRFORD, England, June 13, 2017 — Two B-2 Spirit stealth bombers arrived here June 9 from Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, joining B-1B Lancer and B-52H Stratofortress bombers already here in theater assurance and deterrence operations.

Miguel Lara III)
Three B-52Hs from Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, and three B-1Bs from Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota, along with about 800 airmen, are supporting exercises Saber Strike and BALTOPS in the European theater.

While not actively participating in ongoing regional exercises, the B-2s join the other Air Force Global Strike Command assets in support of recurring bomber assurance and deterrence operations. Bomber deployments enhance the readiness and training necessary to respond to any contingency or challenge across the globe.

"The bomber assurance and deterrence missions these three aircraft are supporting are key to reinforcing our commitment to our allies in NATO -- in a very visible, very tangible way -- that we stand shoulder to shoulder with them, no matter what," said Air Force Col. Jared Kennish, the 322nd Air Expeditionary Group commander.

Flexible Capabilities on Display

U.S. Strategic Command routinely conducts bomber operations around the globe as a demonstration of commitment to collective defense and to integrate with geographic combatant commands operations and activities. This is the first time that all three bomber platforms have been located together in the European theater, and only the second time in AFGSC command history. The first was in Guam in August.

"This short-term deployment demonstrates the flexible global strike capabilities of the U.S. bomber force, and ensures bomber crews maintain a high state of readiness," Kennish said. "The training will provide opportunities to integrate capabilities with regional partners, and is part of the United States' commitment to supporting global security."

Airmen from Whiteman Air Force Base are supporting the B-2s. Many, including Kennish, are members of the Missouri Air National Guard's 131st Bomb Wing. The Guard wing has cleared a number of operational performance evaluations and readiness assessments to obtain full operational capability to perform the strategic bomber mission of the B-2 alongside the active duty 509th Bomb Wing, at home and at Fairford.

Members of the 131st BW have been a part of every previous bomber assurance and deterrence operation; however, this is the first time that the operations of all three strategic bombers have been led by a guardsman, further signaling the full arrival of the total force construct in Air Force Global Strike Command.

"There may have been a time early in our transition when people wondered if our two wings could make [total force integration] work in the B-2 operations, maintenance and support missions, but we've long since proved the concept at Whiteman," Kennish said. "Operations like the ones we're supporting this month just put an exclamation point on our record of total-force team success."

New Orleansissa vuonna 1965 syntynyt Stephen Scalise kuuluu republikaanipuolueen ryhmänjohtoon. Hän on puolueensa kolmanneksi ylin edustaja edustajainhuoneessa.

Asiasta lisää hetken kuluttua.
