QUANTICO, Va. (Army News Service) -- An infantry brigade combat team of the 10th Mountain Division will be the first unit to get the new Joint Light Tactical Vehicles, or JLTV, around January 2019, when full-rate production kicks in, said Col. Shane Fullmer.
Fullmer, the joint program manager for the JLTV, spoke at a JLTV demonstration and media roundtable here June 14.
The brigade will receive 500 JLTVs on a one-for-one replacement of the unit's current fleet of Humvees, he said.
A total of about 100 JLTVs are being provided this year by Oshkosh Defense, the maker of the vehicle, at a low-rate initial production of about 10 per month to the Army and Marine Corps for testing, officials said.
Testing includes command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; reliability qualification; and live-fire, according to a chart provided at the media roundtable.
The Army plans to purchase at least 50,000 JLTVs and the Marine Corps so far plans to buy about 5,500 for a total cost for both services of about $24 billion, with production extending over the course of around 20 years, according to Army officials.
Andrew Rogers, program manager, Light Tactical Vehicles at PEO Land Systems Marine Corps, said the Marine Corps is re-evaluating its order and may order upwards of 10,000. The first JLTVs for the Marine Corps, he said, will go to a battalion at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, in late 2019.
FOUR VARIANTS
Fullmer said there are four variants of the JLTV: general purpose, close-combat weapons carrier, heavy gun carrier and utility. Of those four variants, each comes in two doors or four.
The two-seaters have an extended bed and are built to carry up to 5,100 pounds of supplies, he said. The four-seaters carry about 3, 500 pounds, including four Soldiers seated and a fifth manning the weapons turret.
Weapons that can be carried include .50-caliber machine guns, Mk-19 grenade launchers and TOW missiles, he noted.
Requirements for the JLTV included the ability to be airlifted by CH-47 or CH-53 helicopters and to have a similar footprint as the Humvee so they'd fit inside the decks of amphibious ships, Fullmer said.

Seven people were reportedly injured in an overnight shootout in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina that was caught on Facebook live.
The Daily Mail, citing Myrtle Beach Police, the shooting occurred around 12:30am on Sunday near Ocean Boulevard.
A fight broke out among a crowd of people that led to the suspect pulling a gun out and firing. Seven people were hit and taken to the hospital. None of the victims had life-threatening injuries.
According to police, officers were called to 5th Ave N and Ocean Boulevard around 12:25 am as a large crowd had gathered and was blocking traffic.
A fight broke out between three people amongst the crowd before officers arrived. A man in a white t-shirt and jeans proceeded to pull a gun out of his pocket and fire at people.
More than a dozen shots can be heard in the video.
An armed security officer witnessed the shooting, prompting him to fire at the suspect, who attempted to flee in a stolen vehicle.
Officers say they found the stolen vehicle as well as the suspect who has now been apprehended.

According to The Daily Mail, the security officer that prevented the shooter from harming many more people suffered a graze wound to the leg but did not require hospitalization and instead received medical attention at the scene.
Although a patrol car was hit by gunfire, no officers were hurt.
Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes said that “Social media today puts this word out quickly.” “It does not look good for the city of Myrtle Beach,” he added.
This was the third shooting in the city within eight hours. Around 4:30 pm on Saturday a gunshot victim was found at Coastal Grand Mall with reports of shots being fired ten minutes later at the Crown Reef Resort on Ocean Boulevard.

Katselin aamulla CNN uutisia. Ilmeisesti rahtilaiva oli tehnyt ihmeellisiä käännöksiä. USS Fitzgeraldin radiohuone tuhoutui eikä alus pystynyt lähettämään kunnon viestiä onnettomuudesta.
CNN väitti, että Chrystalilta siis rahtilaivalta kesti tunnin ilmoittaa törmäyksestä Japanin merivartiostolle.

Kertoo, että ampumapaikan lähistöllä oli sattunut ennen tätä tapausta aseellinen ryöstö, jonka tekijöinä oli pari mustaa miestä. No, nyt sitten pysäyttivät auton ja kun kaveri mainitsi aseen hanskalokerossa, meni poliisi paniikkiin ja laittoi kuskin kylmäksi.
Hieman surkuhupaisalta tuo pöytäkirja vaikuttaa. Pieni tyttö istui takapenkillä kuskin penkin takana. Poliisi myöntää, että tyttö oli tulilinjalla, mutta tämä "varoi ehdottomasti" osumasta tyttöön. Vaikka siis paukutti paniikissa 7 laukausta.

On kyllä aivan käsittämätön tuo "Talk to the gun, 'cause head ain't listening"-linja jenkkipoliisilla. Voidaan vaan ihmetellä että mitä kansalaisen pitäisi vielä tehdä ettei joudu poliisin ampumaksi jos kerta luvallisesta käsiaseesta kertominenkaan ei tuohon riitä.
Mitä kaikkea vaaditaankaan että asioille alkaa tuolla tapahtumaan jotain?
