Saa nähdä miten ja missä vaiheessa aiemmin kerrottu "viisaiden ryhmä" tullaan kokoamaan. Sen pitäisi vastata siitä poliittisesta ohjauksesta.

Huom.

The Board of Audit and Inspection of Korea, or BAI, has widened its probe against the F-35 selection from Seoul’s 2014 F-X III competition, according to defense sources

In September 2013, Boeing, which offered the stealthy F-15 Silent Eagle, was selected as the preferred bidder for the $7.4 billion F-X III contract for 60 aircraft, as rival Lockheed Martin failed to submit proposals below the budget.

The number of fighters to be procured was decreased from 60 to 40, in an apparent move to meet the F-35 budget proposal.

“The F-X III selection process is a black mark on DAPA’s procurement records,” said Charles Park, a researching member of the Defense Management Research Institute affiliated with Kookmin University in Seoul. “No one can deny the F-35 has better stealth capabilities than the F-15 Silent Eagle. But the Silent Eagle won the race fairly under due rules. Nevertheless, the DAPA did a flip-flop on its decision without warrant.”

Some local experts believe the probe into the F-35 deal could have a negative impact on the Air Force’s plan of introducing 20 more F-35As.

Strike planned at Italy F-35 assembly line
ROME ― Workers at Italy’s F-35 assembly line have announced a strike for April 24 to protest the widespread use of employment agency contractors at the site.
Unions planning the one-day strike said 600 staff at Cameri Air Base — where Italy is performing F-35 final assembly work — are working on agency contracts, while only 270 are employed directly by Italian defense firm Leonardo, which runs the site.
“There is no job security for staff,” said Sergio Busca a representative of the UILM union at the site. “Leonardo has long promised to hire them, but we are getting frustrated,” he added.

Owned by the Italian government and operated by state defense firm Leonardo in partnership with Lockheed Martin, Cameri has delivered nine F-35As to the Italian Air Force.

Five are now flying from Italy’s Amendola Air Base and four are involved in pilot training at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona.
On March 1, the F-35s at Amendola became operational assets within Italy’s air defense system, the Italian Air Force said.
In January, the first F-35B to be assembled outside the U.S., which is destined to fly with the Italian Navy, was handed over to Italy at Cameri.
Italy is currently due to purchase 60 F-35As and 30 F-35Bs, while Cameri is also due to assemble 29 F-35As for the Royal Netherlands Air Force.
In 2014, the 101-acre base was named by the U.S. Department of Defense as its F-35 Heavy Airframe Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul and Upgrade facility for the European region.
“Leonardo has said the high number of agency staff is normal, but we should have work here for decades with the maintenance activity, so why not hire the staff, given their qualifications?” said Busca.
In a statement, Leonardo said it would start giving the staff full time positions this year. It put the number of agency staff at 520.
The promise has not convinced workers at Cameri, who organized an overtime ban last Saturday as an initial protest, which Busca said was widely adhered to.
Unions have organized an assembly on Monday, he added.
“The strike is planned for Tuesday, on the same day Leonardo has invited us for talks,” he said. “It is possible that at the assembly staff may vote to delay the strike in order to hear what the firm has to say. But if we don’t hear about hirings, the strike will be on,” he said.

https://www.playboy.com/read/the-strange-saga-of-the-world-s-most-expensive-weapon-1

This story begins well before Lockheed was officially awarded the contract. In 1984, weapons developers at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency began hatching plans for a jet that would be both capable of VTOL (vertical take-off and landings) and flying at supersonic speeds. The Pentagon had already explored the concept in the mid-1960s in a collaboration with West German engineers. By the ‘70s, the project was shelved after a series of studies deemed the idea impractical for military use.

"The ministry says the jet may have had problems involving part of its body during flight. "

"The F-35 is primarily a strike aircraft, intended to hit well defended targets on the ground, and is limited in air-to-air combat because of its size, its single engine, and way it was designed," Bronk said. But because Russian and Chinese jets constantly pester Japan's airspace, Tokyo wants a more air-dominance focused jet.

Eräät eivät tunnu haluavan tajuta ettei kolmevitosta ole ikinä luotu koiratappeluun. Vaikka asia on kaikille tehty selväksi kauan sitten.

Today, Russia and China have built impressive arrays of very high frequency, or VHF, and other integrated radars that can spot even the US's most advanced and stealthy jets like the F-22 and the F-35 under the right circumstances.

While many have rushed to declare stealth a fruitless and expensive path for the US Air Force to walk, retired Marine Maj. Dan Flatley told Business Insider why pilots of America's most expensive weapons system weren't afraid of Russian or Chinese counterstealth.

"Adversaries have to build a kill chain," said Flatley, a former F-35 pilot. Just because a radar can find an object - and Russian VHF radars can spot F-35s - doesn't mean it can fix, track, target, and consummate that kill chain with a missile hit, he said.

"We're not trying to prevent every aspect of that chain, just snap one of those links," Flatley said.

So while an infrared search and tracking system could spot an F-35 and give enemy pilots an idea of where it is, it couldn't track it or target it with a missile. This means that the systems Russia and China have spent millions developing provide only a tiny glimpse of the F-35 - systems that may be sunk costs in the grand scheme of things.

"I don't need to stop everything all the time," Flatley said of the kill chain. "I just need to make you unable to finish what you've already invested tons of time and money and effort in trying to shoot me down."

"That's the thing people don't understand," Flatley said. "They think we're saying we're invisible to everyone all the time, at all bandwidths and energy levels. ... That's not what we're saying."

Flatley says F-35 pilots joke that only Wonder Woman has an invisible jet. The reality is that the F-35 is a huge piece of flying metal and alloy - a radar pointed at the right place at the right time will definitely spot it, but good luck shooting it down.

Meanwhile, as the enemy systems scour the skies for any trace of the F-35, the F-35 sees all of those radar emissions and can pinpoint the air defenses and enemy planes.

The manufacturer recently displayed a developmental F135 to reporters visiting P&W’s West Palm Beach, Florida, engine test center. P&W has verified—at its own cost—a suite of compressor, turbine and software-controlled airflow-modulation technologies on the test engine. These new technologies offer a 5 to 6 percent fuel-burn improvement and a thrust bump of 6 to 10 percent over the F135’s 40,000-pound validated maximum-thrust, throughout the F-35’s flight envelope.

Pratt & Whitney is packaging all of the test-verified technological improvements in the F135 FBR engine into Growth Option 1, which would potentially be available for all F135s, whether new-production or already-installed engines. Growth Option 1 would require replacing the F135’s core (or “power”) module, and for any already-installed engine the module replacement could be performed during a routine depot visit, according to Burd. No other modifications would be necessary: as a customer, “you can’t see the upgraded parts,” he said.
“If we were given the green light, we would launch a short program and would have it [ready] by 2020,” in time to incorporate into new F135s under the Block 4 production contract
