The Kremlin did not see a threat of dependence in the growth of trade turnover between the Russian Federation and China
Moscow does not see any possible risks of dependence in the multiple increase in trade turnover between Russia and China. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated this on March 12 during a briefing.
Journalists drew his attention to the significant increase in bilateral trade turnover over the past two years and asked whether there were risks for the Russian side in this.
He also recalled that the presidents of the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, even before the start of the special operation, set the goal of further developing trade cooperation and bringing it to a level exceeding $200 billion a year.
“This is a systematic, mutually beneficial development of trade and economic cooperation, which has long roots, given that now, in general, the strategic partnership between our country and the PRC is at its historical peak, and let’s hope that this is not the peak yet, and we We will continue to develop,” Peskov concluded.
Earlier, on March 7, Sergei Lukonin, head of the sector of economics and politics of China at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IMEMO named after E.M. Primakov), told Izvestia that the volume of Chinese-Russian trade in January-February increased by 9.3 %, up to $37 billion. According to the expert, this was influenced by sanctions and the geopolitical situation. He also predicted a further increase in the figure.
The day before, at the World Youth Festival, Peskov said that Russia greatly values relations with China , which, according to him, are already at their peak.
On February 14, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia considers the development of relations with China the most important task, and the dialogue between the leaders of Russia and China plays a key role in this.
