Patria AMV chosen to be tested in Japan
NEWS
11.09.2019
Patria’s armoured modular vehicle AMVXP has been chosen to a one-year field testing in Japan after a competitive bidding. The Japanese Ministry of Defence will buy two vehicles from Patria for the tests. Two other companies have also been selected to deliver their vehicles to the tests. The final selection is to be expected after the trials.
“This is good news as it is a sign of the high quality and appreciation of Patria vehicles. In case Patria vehicles will be selected to Japan, we are ready for technology transfer project and to set up an assembly line there,” says Petri Jokinen, SVP, Sales and Marketing of Patria’s Land business unit.

Olen muuten melkoisen varma, että tuossa kaupassa tulee olemaan vahvoilla jos on valmis tuohon teknologia vaihtoon. Tai en ainakaan keksi miten Japani valitsisi sellaisen vaihtoehdon jota ei tultaisi valmistamaan Japanissa.
Replacement
On 10 January 2017, a new 8×8 APC prototype called the Wheeled Armoured Vehicle (Improved) was handed off to the Japanese Armed Forces to replace the 365 Type 96 vehicles in service. Developed by the Japanese Defense Ministry in collaboration with Komatsu Limited, the wheeled vehicle was designed to offer more protection against improvised explosive devices (IEDs) with a similar layout to the Patria AMV and Stryker providing the Japanese Army with a family of different vehicles on a common chassis. It is 8.4 m (27 ft) long, 2.5 m (8 ft) wide, and 2.9 m (9 ft) high, weighing 20 tons and carries two crew and nine troops with a new more powerful 500 hp diesel engine and strengthened suspension to run at 100 km/h. The vehicle will equip JGSDF combat and combat-support units for peacekeeping operations as well as “counter island invasion” scenarios. Trials of the prototype will continue until 2019. This has since been delayed due to issues with the armor quality of the prototypes, however was resumed again in May 2019.[3][4][5][6]
The Ministry of Defense’s Acquisitions, Technology and Logistics Agency, or ATLA, said in an announcement posted on its website on Sept. 10 that the General Dynamics Land Systems LAV 6.0, the AMV by Finland’s Patria and an entrant from Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, or MHI, will be evaluated to be the potential replacement for the Type 96 8x8 armored personnel carrier or APC.
