Konekäännös SVT:n jutusta vuodelta 2017 sivuten tapausta, jossa Uumajaan sijoitettu Ruotsin Sjöfartsverketin (~Merenkulkulaitos) helikopteri pelasti Vaasan saaristossa karille ajaneessa veneessä olleet henkilöt. Jutussa kerrotaan Yleen viitaten Rkp:n kansanedustaja Joakim Strandin toivovan omaa meripelastuskopteria Pohjanmaalle.
Swedish Maritime Administration: "It should not be a question of being allowed to cross the border"
PUBLISHED AUGUST 3, 2017
Just over two weeks ago, a motorboat ran aground in the Vaasa archipelago in Finland. Rescue helicopters from Umeå were called in, which sparked a debate about their own Finnish helicopter in the area. However, the Swedish Maritime Administration believes that national borders should not play a role in rescue efforts.
When the Swedish rescue helicopter was allowed to rescue six children and two adults after their motorboat ran aground outside the Finnish Ritgrund , voices were raised that Ostrobothnia should have its own helicopter.
- It is an excellent example of a collaboration across the Kvarken. But we can not outsource security to Sweden. The helicopter could just as well have been on another assignment, said Riksdag politician Joakim Strand, to the Finnish radio and television company Yle at the time.

Yle has now spoken with Mattias Hylert, director of sea and air rescue at the Swedish Maritime Administration, who believes that it was natural for the Swedish helicopter to be called.
- The Finnish Sea Rescue Center asked the Swedish Sea Rescue Center if the helicopter in Umeå could help. They were aware that it was the closest flying resource, says Mattias Hyllert to Yle .
"The nearest available resource to be used"
There is currently a co-operation agreement between the Nordic countries to assist each other in rescue work. The nearest resource is the one to be used, regardless of which side of the border it is on.
- A Finnish helicopter from Rovaniemi can participate in rescue work in the Swedish mountains at the same time as the Swedish helicopter from Umeå helps in the archipelago outside Vaasa, says Mattias Hyllert.
- When a situation arises, it should not be a question of whether the helicopter is allowed to cross the national border. The nearest available resource should be used.
