Syria writes letter of protest to UN following IDF-associated airstrike
Less than one day after the IAF reportedly targeted one of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's military bases, the Syrian government sent an official letter to the UN Security Council regarding the matter. The Syrian Foreign Ministry claims in the letter that Israel is supporting terrorist organizations in Syria with US approval in violation of UN Security Council resolutions. On Tuesday evening, the Syrian Foreign Ministry sent a letter to the UN Security Council in protest of the airstrike on a Syrian military base, which the country alleges was carried out by Israel. The letter claims that the “repeated and recurring” attacks on Syria prove the “Israeli Occupation Army’s” hostile and dangerous route with its constant attempts to undermine the region’s stability and entangle Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
The letter also reads that the Israeli attacks are mostly aimed at increasing the “shallow morale” of the terrorist organizations operating in the area targeted by the alleged airstrike. The Syrian Foreign Ministry emphasized that Israel’s attacks on Syria will not protect ISIS and the Al-Nusra Front, which “cooperate with Israel and its agents.”
Furthermore, the letter asserts that the attack allegedly conducted by Israel violates UN resolutions and would not have been possible without US support. Syria also claimed in the letter that the US “frees Israel” from all responsibility, allowing the the country to carry out acts of terror against countries in the region and threaten regional and international peace and security.
As reported earlier by JOL, reports out of Syria stated that Israel conducted three attacks and Syrian aerial defense forces fired at the sources of the missiles. The first attack began at 2:40 AM on Tuesday when a fighter jet reportedly launched missiles from Lebanon’s airspace towards al-Qutayfah. The second was at 3:40 AM and involved surface-to-surface missiles that were launched from the Golan Heights. The third alleged attack was at 4:15 AM and involved four missiles fired from the area of Tiberias in Israel.
Syrian outlets reported that the military successfully downed several of the missiles. Meanwhile, Syrian rebel news outlets said that the targeted site was a base used to store long-range missiles.
