Jahas, saksalainen drone mätkähti maahan äskettäin (28.5.). Hieno tarinan alku. Juopot ja poliisit...

No more radio signal: the Bundeswehr drone crashes at Cröchern - drunk men demand a finder's fee, then the police come

It is called the flying eye of the troops, but on Friday a Luna reconnaissance drone crashed near Cröchern. The device was controlled during an exercise on the Altmark military training area near Letzlingen.

At around 4 p.m. on Friday, the drone's radio signal suddenly disappeared. The aircraft, which weighs around 40 kilograms, crashed near Cröchern in a forest area. "There was no personal injury or property damage," reports the press office. And the Bundeswehr was lucky: "Young people who found the drone took a handcart to Colbitz, where it was handed over to the Bundeswehr on the instructions of the police."

As Matthias Lütkemüller reports from the police in Haldensleben, however, those who found the drone were no longer of a young age. "We are investigating three men between 34 and 40 years of age on suspicion of embezzlement and property damage," reported the police spokesman in the Volksstimme interview.

Lütkemüller describes what happened after the drone crashed as follows: The finders - all three are said to have drunk alcohol beforehand - brought the aircraft to Colbitz on private property. "At first you were probably under the assumption that it was a model airplane," said the police spokesman. Only later did they come to the realization that it was material from the Bundeswehr. The group then called there and immediately asked for a higher finder's fee. But nothing came of it.

The Bundeswehr informed the local police. And together, the drone wreck was secured in Colbitz late on Friday evening.

According to the press officer, the drone is "irreparably damaged". In addition, all drones of the type belonging to the Bundeswehr will remain on the ground until the crash has been fully resolved.

New Rare Image of Israel's 'Caesaron' Large Underwater Drone

It is not surprising that the Israeli Navy has been an early adopter of large uncrewed underwater vehicles (UUVs). Yet it does not advertise its systems in this space. The existence of the Caesaron autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) and its capabilities, in broad terms, are known. But the vehicle is very camera shy. A photo has now emerged showing it being transported.

The Caesaron was devolved in 2014 (or earlier) and briefly unveiled by the Israeli Defense Ministry in 2017. It has fallen off the radar since then with very little information available in the public sphere.

Outwardly, the Caesaron resembles the Canadian ISE Explorer family of UUVs. It has a long cylindrical hull with simple two-blade screw on the end of a long conical tail. The three main control surfaces are mounted relatively far forward. The upper rudder also doubles as an aerial fixture and can accommodate a range of sensors and communications devices. The forward hydroplanes have large end-plates.
However its payload is more unusual. A comparatively large telescopic optronic mast folds down into the hull. When swung upwards and extended it can provide high-quality persistent ISR (Intelligence Surveillance & Reconnaissance). The mast head has multiple sensors and can provide communications intelligence (COMINT) and electronic warfare (EW) monitoring. As well as cameras it has an LPI radar (Low-probability-of-intercept) and AIS receiver.

There are also side-scan sonar in sponsions either side of the mast assembly section. These can be used for bottom mapping and mine warfare. In the Mine Disposal role it can carry four smaller kill-UUVs, such as the SeaFox. These are expendable mine disposal vehicles (EMDV) developed by Atlas Elektronik which detonate the mine.

U.S. Marine Corps plans to arm variants of its 8x8 LAV-25 wheeled armored vehicle, as well as 4x4 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles and Long-Range Unmanned Surface Vehicle drone boats with Israeli-designed loitering munitions, sometimes referred to as "suicide drones." All of these platforms will deploy these munitions, a variant of the UVision Hero-120, from a common Multi-Canister Launcher against various ground and maritime targets.

UVision confirmed that a version of its Hero-120, as well as its Multi-Canister Launcher, had been selected as the winning entry for the Marine Corps' Organic Precision Fires-Mounted (OPF-M) program on June 21, 2021. Israel-headquartered UVision, which also has its own U.S. subsidiary, is working together with Maryland-based Mistral, Inc. to deliver the Marine-specific Hero-120s, which the latter company has referred to as Loitering Strike Munitions. The broader OFP program, which dates back to at least 2018, also includes plans to acquire smaller, man-portable loitering munitions for dismounted use.

En nyt saanut tähän linkatuksi Puolustusvoimien tiedotetta. Alkavat tutkia miehittämättömien ilma-alusjärjestelmien käyttöä. Mm. MQ-9 Reaper on mainittu.

Suomen sotilas -lehti:

Vaan 100 miljoonaa dollaria kipale.
