Malinkovich will demand that Slutsky’s mandate in the State Duma be deprived because of the idea to bury Lenin
The Communists of Russia party will send a demand to the State Duma to deprive LDPR leader Leonid Slutsky of his deputy mandate for proposing to bury Vladimir Lenin. Chairman of the Central Committee of the party Sergei Malinkovich told RIA Novosti on January 21 .
“The party will send to the State Duma of the Russian Federation addressed to Mr. [Speaker Vyacheslav] Volodin a demand to deprive the Slutsk deputy of his mandate in connection with his proposal to rebury Lenin, inciting discord in society. Such statements contradict the course towards the consolidation of society during the Special Military Operation. This is an irresponsible politician, and he should forever lose his status as a deputy of the Russian parliament,” he said.
Malinkovich added that the question of Lenin’s resting place had long been resolved.
Slutsky put forward a corresponding proposal earlier that day in his Telegram channel in connection with the centenary of the death of the Soviet leader. Lenin should be buried next to his mother, thus fulfilling the will of the revolutionary, says the head of the LDPR faction. At the same time, Slutsky noted that there are enough other places for tourists in the country, in addition to the Mausoleum on Red Square in Moscow , while the repose of the deceased is an important rite and a manifestation of memory and respect.
This is not the first time that such proposals have been voiced by Russian politicians. In particular, in 2020, former LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky proposed cremating Lenin’s body and burying his ashes at the grave of the Soviet leader’s father or mother.
In 2019, State Duma deputy Vitaly Milonov proposed starting work on a bill on the burial ceremony of Lenin’s body.
