Osalla loppuu. Toivottavasti mahdollisimman isolla osalla. On Vanjalla (ainakin heidän mittapuullaan) myös hyvin johdettuja ja koulutettuja yksiköitä, jotka hoitavat huollon paikallisilla resursseilla ja pitävät itsensä taistelukuntoisina.
 
On day three of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Victoria Gogh realised her mother was slipping away from her.

“I noticed on the phone that mum was starting to parrot the government’s narrative about this war – that this was all the fault of Nato, that Russia had no choice but to defend itself,” said Gogh, 28, a fashion consultant originally from a small town in Siberia who moved to Moscow.

“It became my mission to change her mind, to show her what was really going on,” said Gogh, who has strongly opposed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on her social media channels.

Vladimir Putin’s decision to start a war with Russia’s neighbour has seen many Ukrainian families torn apart, as their adult men are forced to stay behind and fight while other members of the family flee the violence.

But Russia has also been experiencing its own family rifts – between those who back the war and those who oppose it. Often, that divide runs along generational lines.

“In broad terms, younger Russians are less likely to have anti-Ukrainian sentiments. We have seen that the anti-war protests have also largely involved younger people,” said Andrei Kolesnikov of the Carnegie Moscow Center. “A lot of how you perceive the war depends on where you get your news,” he said. “If you watch television, you are simply more likely to toe the official line. And older people tend to watch more TV.”

In the past, polling has found that television remains the biggest news source for Russians, with more than 60% of the population relying on it for information. Russians over 65 are 51% more likely to watch television than under-25s.

One of Russia’s most popular television news presenters, who has been accused of being a propagandist for the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, has British citizenship and a family flat in west London.

Sergei Brilev has been reporting on the war in Ukraine on the state-controlled Rossiya 1, which tightly follows the Kremlin’s messaging. The channel describes the war as a “special military operation” launched to protect Ukrainian citizens from “abuse and genocide”.

British government ministers are coming under pressure to impose sanctions on Brilev. The Labour MP Stephen Kinnock asked in parliament for the Home Office to “take steps to strip [him] of his British citizenship, ban him from the UK and freeze his UK assets”. The Home Office said last week it would not comment on individual cases.

Kinnock said: “It seems to me there is clear evidence that Sergei Brilev is a propagandist for the Kremlin and plays an important role in supporting Putin’s barbaric war in Ukraine.

“The British government must conduct a full and thorough investigation into Mr Brilev in order to judge whether he should be sanctioned. Given the information I have seen, it seems the case is clear that he should be targeted for sanctions.”

Other Russian television anchors have already faced sanctions by the EU over the state-backed disinformation about the Ukraine invasion.

Jos tuo 4000-10000 kaatuneen määrä pitää edes jotenkuten paikkansa niin haavoittuneita on se 3-10 kertainen määrä. Noihin lukuihin on muissa viimesodissa päästy. Kyllä noista riittää ruumiita siellä sairaanhoidossakin.

Venäjä tulee salaamaan luvut ihan taatusti, katsotaan mitä sitten Ukrainassa aikanaan selviää.

As Russian shelling has devastated other parts of Ukraine, the picturesque western city of Lviv has been left untouched, so far. But it is bracing for war. Some preparations you can see in the open - the checkpoints on main roads and the soldiers on the streets - but some are taking place behind closed doors.

In Lviv's galleries, museums and churches, a huge operation is under way to safeguard the city's cultural heritage. Thousands of artworks and artefacts have been carefully removed and taken to secret underground locations, or down to basement storage rooms.
