Uutistoimisto: Asemiehet valtasivat raja-aseman Ukrainassa

http://en.ria.ru/russia/20140303/18...-Demands-for-Unbiased-Coverage-of-Crisis.htmlMOSCOW, March 3 (RIA Novosti) – Media chiefs of Russia and Ukraine on Monday exchanged calls for “unbiased coverage” of the crisis in the former Soviet republic.
Western and Ukrainian media have repeatedly accused Russian colleagues of deliberate misinterpretation of facts while covering events in the country. A group of journalists has even set up a website to “refute with facts various types of fake news and misinformation.”
Former boxer and UDAR party leader Vitali Klitschko also recently called for action to counter what he described as Russia's "information offensive" against Ukraine.
Some Ukrainian politicians, including the head of the Ukrainian parliament’s media committee, Mykola Tomenko, have called on cable and satellite TV providers to remove Russian TV channels, which are popular in Ukraine’s Russian-speaking east and Crimea, from their services.
In an open letter to their Russian colleagues, quoted by the UNIAN news agency on Monday, heads of four major Ukrainian broadcasting companies - Inter Media Group, Starlight Media, Ukraina Media Group and 1+1 Media - called for “open, balanced and unbiased coverage of present-day events in Ukraine.”
“We urge you to understand and support the stance of all central Ukrainian TV channels and treat every word of yours with responsibility. We all have no right to fuel hostility between the brotherly people of Ukraine and Russia or to air information that lacks proof or distorts reality,” reads the statement, addressed to the heads of Russia’s main broadcasters, Channel One, VGTRK and NTV.
They responded to their Ukrainian colleagues with the same call in a letter that read: “As far as objectiveness and responsibility is concerned, we would like to make the same call to you."
“Let’s be objective and responsible, let’s weigh our words and control our emotions and let’s do it together, not separately as we have been doing of late. By doing this, we will be able to produce an unbiased insight into the reality, which currently is the main task for everyone.”

http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/uk...suspending-all-military-contact-russia-n43321WASHINGTON – The Obama administration is considering pulling out of an upcoming military exercise with the Russians and suspending all military-to-military contacts and consultations in response to Russia’s invasion of Crimea.
Ukraina vastaan Venäjä ei ole aivan "Daavid vastaan Goljat" -tilanne, sillä vaikka Venäjällä on maailman viidenneksi suurimmat asevoimat, eivät Ukrainan asevoimatkaan ole aivan pienet.
Ukrainan sotilasmahti on kuitenkin laadullisesti aivan eri luokkaa. Siitä kertovat jo maiden puolustusbudjetit: Venäjän noin 65 miljardia vastaan Ukrainan noin 1,3 miljardia euroa vuodessa.
http://en.ria.ru/world/20140304/188...an-Cities-Want-to-Join-Crimea---Lawmaker.htmlSIMFEROPOL, March 4 (RIA Novosti) – A senior Crimean lawmaker said on Monday that representatives of three southern Ukrainian administrative capitals expressed willingness to become a part of the autonomous republic if its autonomy is broadened in a referendum.
Deputy speaker of Crimea’s Supreme Council Serhiy Tsekov said Crimean authorities had received calls from “representatives of local administrative bodies” in Mykolaiv, Kherson and Odessa.
“They think that they should be together with Crimea,” he said.
Ukraine’s mainly ethnic Russian-populated region of Crimea is now at the center of the ongoing crisis in the country as pro-Russia groups move to distance themselves from a reformed national parliament that ousted President Viktor Yanukovych a week ago.
The Crimean parliament voted last week to hold a referendum on greater autonomy on March 30.
http://www.miningjournal.net/page/c...lks--threatens-sanctions.html?isap=1&nav=5016BRUSSELS (AP) — European Union leaders called a special summit for Thursday, where they are expected to freeze visa liberalization and economic cooperation talks with Russia if Moscow hasn't taken steps to calm the crisis in Ukraine's Crimean peninsula.
EU foreign ministers said they also have stopped preparation for the G8 summit which is set for June in the Russian resort of Sochi.
EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said the EU would give Russia until the Thursday show clear signs of goodwill, including a willingness to open talks and a withdrawal of Russian troops to their barracks in the Crimea.
"The ambition is to see the situation improve. If it doesn't, then the course is set," Ashton said after the foreign ministers' meeting.
She said she will meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday in Madrid.
The ambassadors of NATO's 28 member nations will hold a second emergency meeting on Ukraine Tuesday after Poland invoked an article calling for consultations when a nation sees its "territorial integrity, political independence or security threatened," the alliance said in a statement.
At the EU meeting, many foreign ministers stressed the immediate focus should be on diplomacy and promoting direct dialogue between Russia and the new leadership in Ukraine.
The EU is Russia's biggest trading partner, and Russia is the EU's third-largest partner, mostly thanks to exports of raw materials such as oil and gas.
Economic sanctions would hurt all sides, said Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans.
"Those consequences will be bad for everyone, but for Russia they will be far worse than for the EU. We can target other markets if we have to. (Russia) will have trouble to quickly find other customers," he said.
