Venäjän ja Yhdysvaltain välillä on kesäkuun lopulla käyty epävirallisia neuvotteluja Ukrainan tilanteesta Ruotsinpyhtään saaristossa sijaitsevalla Boistön saarella.

Asian vahvistaa MTV Uutisille Suomen Moskovan-suurlähettiläs Hannu Himanen.
Himasen mukaan kyseessä on niin sanottu toisen raiteen diplomatia. Neuvotteluilla ei ole virallista statusta, mutta niissä ovat olleet läsnä korkean tason asiantuntijat molemmilta puolilta.
Suurlähettilään mukaan toisen raiteen diplomatiaa käytetään, kun valtoit eivät kykene tai halua olla suoraan yhteydessä toisiinsa.
The Atlantic-lehden mukaan tapaaminen on järjestetty Suomen ulkoministeriön suosiollisella avustuksella. Ministeriö vahvistaa tapaamisen, mutta ei halua kommentoida asiaa enempää.
Boistön saaren isäntä Erkki Ahonen kertoo MTV Uutisille, että tällainen tapaaminen järjestettiin kesäkuun lopulla, ja ulkoministeriö toimi tilan varaajana.
