Trump decides: “It seems inappropriate that I would debate the second-place finisher”
After saying that he would debate Sanders, if the television networks donate a large sum of money to charity, Donald Trump announced that he has changed his mind. “It seems inappropriate that I would debate the second-place finisher,” he said.
Although he declared three days ago that he would be happy to participate in a televised debate, the Republican candidate clarified last night (Friday) that he will not debate Bernie Sanders, unless he wins the Democratic Party primaries. “It seems inappropriate that I would debate the second-place finisher,” he said.
During an interview on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel, Trump said that he would agree to debate the Democratic candidate before the California primary on June 7th, as long as at least 10 million dollars from the television networks’ earnings is donated to charity.
A day after the interview, Trump changed his mind and said that he will wait to see who wins the Democratic nominee for the 2016 presidential election. “I will wait to debate the first place finisher in the Democratic Party, probably Crooked Hillary Clinton, or whoever it may be.”
Sanders expressed his disappointment over Trump’s most recent decision: “I heard that he was going to debate me, then I heard that he was not going to debate me, then I heard that he was going to debate me. Now you’re telling me that he is not going to debate me. Well, you know, I hope that he changes his mind again.”
