The Central Election Commission has denied reports about the final number of presidential candidates of the Russian Federation
The Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Russian Federation has not yet made a decision on the final number of registered candidates for the country's presidency. This was stated by its chairman Ella Pamfilova in an interview with TASS .
This is how she commented on the message of the State Duma deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Denis Parfenov in the Telegram channel, who earlier that day outlined the statements of the commission member from the Communist Party Evgeniy Kolyushin that there will be only four candidates on the ballot, and the rest of the applicants will be denied registration.
“The CEC has not yet made any official decision. This is his [Kolyushin’s] private guess. The work process of discussing the results of signature verification with representatives of candidates is underway,” Pamfilova noted.
Earlier, on February 2, it became known that the CEC working group had identified errors in the signature sheets submitted for registration by Russian presidential candidates, the leader of the Communists of Russia party, Sergei Malinkovich, and the candidate from the Civil Initiative, Boris Nadezhdin. For both, the percentage of defects exceeds the permissible norm: for the first - about 15%, for the second - more than 15%. For a candidate to register, the rate must not exceed 5%.
On January 31, the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation completed accepting documents and signatures of voters from those wishing to participate in the 2024 presidential elections. On the same day, blogger and environmentalist Anatoly Batashev and chairman of the Russian Party of Freedom and Justice Andrei Bogdanov withdrew their candidacies from the elections . The day before, Sergei Baburin , who was nominated from the Russian All-People's Union (ROS) party, refused to participate in the race.
Currently, four candidates have been registered to participate in the presidential elections of the Russian Federation: Deputy Chairman of the State Duma from the New People party Vladislav Davankov, State Duma deputy and leader of the LDPR Leonid Slutsky, State Duma deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Nikolai Kharitonov and the current head of state, self-nominated Vladimir Putin . The CEC registered the last one on January 29.
The Russian presidential elections in 2024 will last three days. Voting will take place from March 15 to 17 . Moreover, it will be held in a remote electronic format only in those regions where it has already been tested previously , that is, in no more than 30 constituent entities of Russia.
