Nebenzya pointed to Seoul's loss of independence under US pressure
South Korea is rapidly losing its independence under pressure from the United States , risking national interests, Russia's permanent representative to the world organization Vasily Nebenzya said at a meeting of the UN Security Council on June 28.
“We regret that our long-term friends and partners in Seoul are rapidly losing their independence under pressure from Washington, risking their own national interests, dictated, among other things, by objective geography in the region,” the senior diplomat said.
Nebenzya noted that this dangerous path “will not lead Seoul to anything good.”
Earlier this day it was reported that South Korea would add another 243 items of goods and services to the export control list for supplies to Russia and Belarus.
On June 20, it became known that South Korea intends to reconsider the possibility of providing lethal weapons to Ukraine , after Russia concluded a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement with the DPRK.
On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned Seoul against supplying weapons to Kiev. According to him, supplying lethal weapons would be a mistake.
After this, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, noted that Moscow is warning Seoul against possible supplies of lethal weapons to Kiev.
