Type of PartnershipPartnership for Peace
Finland joined the Partnership for Peace in 1994 and is one of NATO’s most active partners.
The country is working to develop capabilities and maintain the ability of its armed forces to work in multinational operations. It is a valued contributor to NATO-led peace-support operations and missions in the Balkans and Afghanistan.
Practical cooperation has developed in many other areas. Finland hosts a Partnership Training and Education Centre, as well as supporting practical projects in other partner countries in the areas of demilitarization, defence transformation or capacity building. It is also a strong advocate for the role of women in peace and security.
Cooperation is based on Finland’s longstanding policy of military non-alignment.
