IAEA funded Russian nuclear research in occupied Crimea? — Investigation by Radio SvobodaAfter the annexation of Crimea and the start of a full-scale invasion, the IAEA funded research by Russian scientists in Crimea, although it officially recognizes the peninsula as Ukrainian. In response to RFE/RL's request, the IAEA stated that the agency continues to consider Crimea as part of Ukraine. And the scientific projects supported by the IAEA were "exclusively technical in nature." In addition, as RFE/RL found out, this week a training organized by the IAEA is starting in Moscow, several participants of which came from temporarily occupied Donetsk after their candidacies were approved by the agency's secretariat. In the internal documents of the IAEA, the country of their residence is indicated as the Russian Federation. The IAEA did not comment on this.
