Katsoin samaa että näyttää enemmän sateiden syömältä kuin räjäytetyltä penkalta. Toki veturi on alas valuessaan vienyt maata mukanaan varmaan ihan reilusti, ja sabotaasia se on salaojien tahallinen tukkiminenkin... Lisäksi nuo ratapölkyt ovat sen verran hyvässä ojennuksessa, että jotain raivaustöitä on jo aloitettu ennen kuvan ottamista. Lisäksi veturi on voinut tulla tuossa alas vaunuletkan kiskomana, ja alkuperäinen tuhon paikka löytyä jostain kuvaajan selän takaa. Ajoitus on kieltämättä paras mahdollinen.

But life in the city is surprisingly normal – even busy – for wartime Ukraine. As the only large city in south-east Ukraine under Ukrainian control, Zaporizhzhia has become a destination for the hundreds of thousands of people who fled Russian occupation.

“You can see for yourself people are out, going to work – the city is prepared but it won’t come to that,” said Ivan Ariefiev, the press secretary of the Zaporizhzhia regional military administration, at one of a series of war-related training courses being offered to the city’s teachers and journalists. Attenders, who are then expected to train the wider community, were taught how to load a gun, administer first aid and do a basic medical evaluation.

Mutta oliko niin että juurikin nämä vanhemmat ja korruptoituneet upseerit olisi korvattu uusilla, nuorilla ja pätevillä? Samaan aikaan kuin länsimaat kouluttu Ukrainan asevoimia. Voisi kuvitella ettei länsimaat olisi alkaneet millekkään ellei korruptiota olisi kitketty asevoimista? Aiemmin tuo varmaan on ollut aivan samanlaista kuin Venäjällä.

On jeesattu korruptiosta huolimatta ja varoja kadonnut. Eikä korruptio ole juurikaan eronnut venäjästä ennen hyökkäystä.

Valitettavasti Ukraina on hyvin korruptoitunut maa, rehellisyyden nimessä pitää kirjoittaa tämänkin. Ja ukrainalaiset tietää tämän hyvin. Koko ajan sanotaan nyt, ettei nyt ole oikea aika puhua esim.Zelenskyin osuudesta korruptiossa, kun on sota. Tilanne on Ukrainassa katastrofaalinen ja hirvein mahdollinen, mutta itse en voi olla hilja, hän ei ole mitään enkeli, vaikka nyt on olevinaan Batman. Kyllä Ukrainan kansa hoitaa sitten korrutionäärit ja kaikki petturit kun tämä ohi. Ihan varmasti! Nyt vain huono aika.

Tuli itsekin huomattua korruptio, kun käytiin kaveriporukalla Odessassa 2017. Siellä on Itaka niminen, ilmeisesti paikallisen mafian hallitsema iso ja hieno rantauima-altailla varustettu yökerho, jossa huijattiin etenkin turisteja (mm. Bar girl scam) meiltä ei siellä paljoa rahaa lähtenyt, mutta monet olivat menettäneet isojakin summia arvosteluiden mukaan. Paikallinen poliisi oli hommassa mukana, rikosilmoituksen tekeminen oli arvostelujen mukaan turhaa.

Sota ei silloin näkynyt katukuvassa oikeastaan missään.

Toivotaan että Zelenski saa korruption kuriin ja sotilaat saavat puhdistettua maan paikallistasolla mafiasta. Hyvä esimerkki tästä oli parisen viikkoa sitten foorumilla näkynyt video, jossa sotilaat antoivat paikallisille mafiatyypeille kunnolla turpaan, kun eivät ilmeisesti olleet totelleet paikallisia kodinturvajoukkoja aseiden luovuttamisesta kontrollipisteellä.

The concrete walls of Litsey 20, one of the largest schools in Ivano-Frankivsk, are normally filled with the chatter of more than 1,200 students aged between six and 18. But with in-person teaching banned across Ukraine because of the war, the school is providing a different sort of education.

At the end of March, the mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk, one of the largest cities in western Ukraine, announced that shooting ranges at five schools in the city – normally used by pupils in the Ukrainian equivalent of the Combined Cadet Force – would be reopened in order to teach civilians how to use firearms. Although open to all, the courses are primarily aimed at women.

The shooting lessons, available every weekday in Litsey 20 and the four other schools in the city, are split into two parts: the basics of handling a Kalashnikov, and target practice on the shooting range with an air rifle. Those attending are not issued with guns afterwards, but, Martsinkiv says, “the main point is to learn how to use it, so they are ready to use it”, if and when the time comes.

Russia is failing in its war aims and “Ukraine is succeeding”, Washington’s top diplomat has announced after a visit to Kyiv during which he pledged additional military aid, including advanced weapons, and a return of US envoys.

The trip by the US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, and the defence secretary, Lloyd Austin, was the highest-level American visit to the capital since Russia invaded in late February.

During talks, Blinken and Austin told Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the US would provide more than $300m in military financing and had approved a $165m sale of ammunition, bringing total US security assistance since the invasion to about $3.7bn. More than $400m will also be split among 15 other nations in central and eastern Europe and the Balkans.

Totta! Rata on perustettu penkkahiekalle, penger on antanut myöten aika pitkältä matkalta, eikä itsestään selvää räjähdyksen jälkeä kuvassa näy.

Mietin myös jo alunperin kuvaa katsoessani, että räjäytyspaikkana taustalla näkyvä kapeikko lammen/tulva-alueen kupeessa olisi ollut ehkä loogisempi ja hieman ihmettelin tätä ”valittua” kohtaa.

Minulle on tullut mieleen näitä "onnettomuuksia" ja tulipaloja katsellessa, että noin joka neljännellä venäläisellä on jonkinlaisia sukusiteitä Ukrainaan.

Kai se veri on vettä sakeampaa Venäjälläkin, eikä ristiriitaiset uutiset Ukrainasta taatusti ilahduta Venäjälläkään.

Hiukka ootee, mutta sokeriserkkuni Yhdysvalloissa ovat jo ryhtyneet kyselemään, että tarvitsenko mahd. jotain kättä pitempää ja voiko Suomeen tulla vapaaehtoiseksi, jos kriisi eskaloituu tännekin.

An active-duty South Korean marine who made an unauthorised overseas trip – reportedly an attempt to reach Ukraine – has been arrested after arriving back home, Seoul’s military has said, according to AFP.

More from the news agency:
The serviceman, whose identity was withheld, left South Korea without permission while on duty on 21 March, the Marine Corps said in a statement, adding that he was arrested immediately after returning home.
South Korea banned its nationals from travelling to Ukraine shortly before conflict broke out this year, citing safety concerns.

Active duty servicemen are specifically banned from any overseas trips without prior approval and leaving without permission is considered desertion, which is a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

“We will take stern measures in accordance with laws and regulations after investigating why he had left his duty,” the Marine Corps said.

According to the Yonhap news agency, the man flew to Poland in an apparent attempt to join the Ukrainian army in its fight against Russia.

He was not, however, able to enter the war-torn country as access was denied at the Polish-Ukraine border, Yonhap reported.

The unidentified marine is widely believed to have uploaded a YouTube video on 9 April in which he said he had a “difficult time” in the South Korean armed forces.

“But I couldn’t help but act when I heard about Ukraine, where people are faced with a much more difficult situation,” he said in the footage, his face hidden from view.

Russia’s ministry of defence has suggested compensation for the families of dead servicemen be overseen by military rather than civilian officials, the UK’s Ministry of Defence has written in its latest intelligence update.

“This likely reflects a desire to hide the true scale of Russia’s losses from the domestic population,” it wrote.

It also said Russia’s decision to besiege rather than attack Mariupol’s Azovstal steel plant “means many Russian units remain fixed in the city and cannot be redeployed. Ukraine’s defence of Mariupol has also exhausted many Russian units and reduced their combat effectiveness.”

Onkohan Ukraina "löytänyt " jostakin risteilyohjuksia? Selkeä suihkumoottorin ääni tuo minusta on. Ääniraidassa vikaa vai oisko jopa lentokoneesta pudotettu pommi/ohjus? Mutta pääsisikö Ukrainalainen kone tuonne "maailman vahvimman ilmapuolustuksen läpi"?
