Kremlin plans Putin's statement on referendums
Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, September 20, may express his attitude towards referendums in the territory of the LPR, DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions
President Vladimir Putin may speak on Tuesday, September 20, regarding referendums in the territories of the LPR, DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. RBC was told about this by three sources close to the presidential administration. The speech is expected before the end of the day, what exactly the head of state will say, RBC's interlocutors do not know.
RBC sent a request to Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov.
On September 20, representatives of the LPR and DPR
announced that referendums in these territories would be held from September 23 to 27.
“In order to ensure conditions for the exercise by referendum participants of their right to participate in voting and security for referendum participants, members of referendum commissions, observers, media representatives, determine the days of voting in the referendum from September 23, 2022 to September 27, 2022,” said the Chairman of the People’s Council of the LPR Denis Miroshnichenko.
He clarified that the following question would be put to the referendum: “Are you in favor of the LPR joining Russia as a subject of Russia?” The results of the referendum are scheduled to be announced no later than five days after the vote.
The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, introduced a bill “On a referendum on joining the Russian Federation as a subject” and asked the deputies to support it. Pushilin also appealed to the President of Russia with a request "to consider the issue of the republic joining Russia as soon as possible, if this is supported by the residents of the DPR in a referendum."
Readiness to hold a referendum was also announced in the Kherson region: the head of the military-civilian administration of the region, Volodymyr Saldo, said that the referendum would also be held on September 23-27.
