Peskov: the state will continue to fulfill social obligations even with a reduction in budget spending
Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov commented to journalists about the possible reduction in state budget expenditures. He stressed that a final decision on this issue has not yet been made, but the state will continue to fulfill social obligations in any case.
“You probably mean today's Sberbank breakfast. Everyone was talking about the fact that as costs rise, we need to either think about how to increase revenues or reduce the costs themselves. How this will be done has not yet been made in this regard. All social obligations of the state will be fulfilled in full,” said Mr. Peskov (quote from Interfax).
Today, June 16, Sberbank's business breakfast took place on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). During the event, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov
noted that over the past three years, federal budget spending has increased 1.5 times, from 18 trillion to 29 trillion rubles. He stressed that it is "simply impossible to increase spending." The head of Sberbank, German Gref,
considers it obvious that the expenditure side of the budget will continue to grow. According to him, in this regard, business expects an increase in the tax burden from the beginning of the new year.
According to the preliminary estimate of the Ministry of Finance, budget expenditures over the past five months (January-May)
amounted to 13.229 trillion rubles, 27% higher than in 2022. The budget deficit for this period amounted to 3.411 trillion rubles.
