The FSB seized 612 SIM boxes used for illegal registration of accounts and wallets
MOSCOW, April 18. /TASS/. During a large-scale operation, the FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs seized 612 SIM boxes used for illegal registration of accounts on social networks and electronic wallets in the interests of Ukrainian terrorist organizations. As the FSB Public Relations Center (PSC) told TASS, the operation was carried out in March.
“The FSB, in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, suppressed the illegal activities of owners of SIM boxes, through which accounts of social networks, instant messengers, financial wallets and bank accounts are illegally activated, including those used for sabotage and terrorist activities, as well as for the dissemination of false terrorist threats and fake information.” , - noted in the DSP. In March 2024, 612 SIM boxes and more than 300 thousand SIM cards were seized in 40 regions.
“During the events, a resident of St. Petersburg born in 1980 was detained, who provided services for activating SIM cards of Russian telecom operators in the interests of Ukrainian terrorist organizations,” the FSB reported. The issue of initiating a criminal case and bringing liability against him is being decided.
The FSB reported that the police opened criminal cases against 30 people under Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud), in relation to two more involved in unlawful access to accounts on the public services portal - under Part 3 of Art. 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal access to computer information).
