US Navy - Yhdysvaltain laivasto

Lockmartin esitys FFG(X)-ohjelmaan. Aika konservatiivisen näköinen alus:
DTHM7XlW0AAQrNL.jpg

Siihen nähden ehkä yllättävää että laivasto on ilmoittanut hintatavoitteeksi 950 miljoonaa dollaria. Tuplaten sen mitä "liian kallis" LCS!

Wikipediassa sanotaan, että:

"In July 2017, the Navy released a request for information for a new multi-mission guided-missile frigate that can perform the same roles as the LCS while having better offensive and defensive capabilities."

W23
The W19 nuclear system was adapted into a nuclear artillery shell for the US Navy 16 inches (410 mm) battleship guns, the W23. Production of the W23 began in 1956 and they were in service until 1962, with a total of 50 units being produced.

The W23 was 16 inches (410 mm) diameter and 64 inches (160 cm) long, with a weight given variously as 1,500 or 1,900 pounds (680 or 860 kg) in reference sources. As with the W19, yield was 15-20 kilotons.

Yleensä euroopassa on pidetty 600milj sellaisena hintana jolla saa huippuluokan fregatin. Tietysti jenkeillä on yleensä kovemmat vaatimukset esimerkiksi toiminta-ajan suhteen mutta hinta kuulostaa silti kovalta jos tarkoitus on saada laivaston runkolukua kasvatettua.

In other news, laivastolla ei ole aikomusta 'tällä haavaa' kehittää uutta ammusta Zumwalt-luokan tykkeihin: Navy has no plan to introduce new ammo for Zumwalt destroyers

Future USS Michael Monsoor Successfully Completes Acceptance Trials
Story Number: NNS180205-16Release Date: 2/5/2018 9:31:00 AM

From Team Ships Public Affairs
BATH, Maine (NNS) -- The Navy's next generation destroyer, the future USS Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001), successfully completed acceptance trials Feb. 1.

The U.S. Navy's Board of Inspection and Survey reviewed the ship and its crew during a series of demonstrations both pier side and underway, evaluating the ship's construction and compliance with Navy specifications.

Many of the ship's onboard systems including navigation, damage control, mechanical, electrical, combat, communications and propulsion systems were tested to validate performance met or exceeded Navy specifications.

"DDG 1001 performed exceedingly well during acceptance trials," said Capt. Kevin Smith, DDG 1000 class program manager, Program Executive Office (PEO) Ships. "The industry and Navy team worked together to incorporate lessons learned from DDG 1000. The trials once again demonstrated how truly powerful and exceptional these ships are."

Zumwalt class destroyers feature a state-of-the-art electric propulsion system, wave-piercing tumblehome hull, stealth design and are equipped with some of the most advanced warfighting technology. These ships will be capable of performing a range of deterrence, power projection, sea control and command and control missions while allowing the Navy to evolve with new systems and missions.

DDG 1001 was christened in June 2016 and is scheduled to deliver in the coming months. Bath Iron Works is currently in production on the future USS Lyndon B. Johnson (DDG 1002), as well as future Arleigh Burke class destroyers Thomas Hudner (DDG 116), Daniel Inouye (DDG 118), Carl M. Levin (DDG 120) and John Basilone (DDG 122).

As one of the Defense Department's largest acquisition organizations, PEO Ships is responsible for executing the development and procurement of all destroyers, amphibious ships, special mission and support ships and special warfare craft.

FFG-X projektiin liittyen.

The Navy has a new vision for what its enormous high-tech destroyers will do: Killing enemy warships at extended ranges.

The Navy is asking Congress to fund a conversion of its 600-foot stealth destroyers from primarily a land attack ship to an anti-surface, offensive strike platform, according to budget documents released Feb. 12.

The service’s 2019 budget request includes a request for $89.7 million to transform its Zumwalt-class destroyers by integrating Raytheon’s long-range SM-6 missile, which can dual hat as both an anti-air and anti-surface missile, as well as its Maritime Strike variant of the Tomahawk missile.

Maritime Tomahawkia jahdataan Hornetilla, lähellä pintaa lentää kohteeseen, muttei ainakaan tämä kehitysversio vielä mutkille loppulähestymisessä

Videon otsikossa ainakin mainitaan TACTOM (BGM/UGM-109E Block IV Tactical Tomahawk).

Liittyen Jenkkien tavoitteeseen saada jokaikiselle taistelualukselle pitkän kantaman meritorjuntaohjuksia.

Euroista yhä mukana FREMM ja F100.

Navy awards design contracts for future frigate
LXHA6PHLJJDHXJAWROEQCUKQPA.jpg
Huntington Ingalls, Lockheed Martin, Austal USA, General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, and Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri have all been asked to submit mature designsover the next 16 months before the Navy drops down to a single detailed design and construction contract.

The U.S. Navy intends to award the contract for the first FFG(X) in 2020. It will buy one in 2020 and one in 2021, followed by two each year after that, according to the Navy’s most recent 30-year shipbuilding plan. The U.S. Navy’s requirement is for 52 small-surface combatants, the bulk of which will be LCS.

Both Austal and Lockheed Martin are competing amped up versions of their littoral combat ships. Huntington Ingalls is offering a version of the Coast Guard’s National Security Cutter. Fincantieri is offering its FREMM design. General Dynamics is offering a patrnership with Spanish shipbuilding Navantia, for its F100 frigate.
