Mutta siis kun ihan googleen laittaa B-21 Raider ja family of systems niin tulee jo ihan kivasti hakutuloksia. Itsellä vaan herää kysymys että mitä se "family of systems" tässä mahtaa pitää sisällään?

Pikaisen googletuksen perusteella juuri sitä mitä arvelin. Sateliitteja, pitkän matkan aseita, F-22, F-35, F-18 Growler. Uutena tulee PCA, miehittämättömät lennokit jne. Kaikki verkottuu yhteen.

Muoks. Ja jotain noista uusista voidaan siis osin kehittää tuossa ohella.

Kiitos vinkistä! Itsekin googlailin nopeasti ja sieltä on siis tulossa järjestelmiä jotka mahdollistavat hyökkäämisen Kiinan kaltaiseen maahan vähän kauempaa. Pitänee ehkä sisällään uusien verkottuneiden pommarien, uusien pidemmän kantaman aseiden, uusien häivelennokkien, satelliittien ja hypersoonisten unelmien lisäksi myös häivetankkauskoneita. Siis ideana on korvata 2030-luvulla 70 vuotta vanhoja KC-135 Stratotankereita häiveominaisuuksia omaavilla järjestelmillä. Lisäksi mainitaan tuo miehitetty PCA eli Penetrating Counter Air.

Mikä noissa googlaamalla löytyvissä "family of systems" pohdinnoissa ei näytä olevan mukana on ydinaseet. Nekin kun maksavat. Näin amatöörillä tulee mieleen että uuden pommikoneen rooli ydinaseiden lavettina vaatiinee lähivuosikymmeninä myös uusien lentokoneesta laukaistavien ydinohjuksien ja uusien turvallisempien ydinkärkien kehittelyä. Tässä se taas kilpailee budjetista muiden triadin osien kanssa. Tiukkaa voi tehdä varsinkin jos lähes samaan aikaan pitäisi korvata Yhdysvaltojen ilmavoimien mannertenvälisiä ydinohjuksia ja laivaston ohjussukellusveneitä ohjuksineen.

As the saying goes: “If you’re going to dream, dream big.”

That’s exactly what Russia did when it was evaluating designs for its next-generation bomber, dubbed the “PAK-DA” — which literally means “prospective aviation complex for long-range aviation.”

The initial concept was supposed to be a stealthy and insanely fast hypersonic aircraft. But then reality set in, and so far the idea’s been more wishful thinking than reality.

The PAK-DA will be a subsonic aircraft designed for high payload and long-range flight. It’s expected to replace the aging Soviet-era turbo-prop Tu-95 “Bear” and the Tu-160 strategic bombers. Developed by Russia’s Ministry of Defense and Tupolev, the PAK-DA is scheduled to begin testing in 2019, according to KRET, the Russian company responsible for designing its radar system.

About three months ago an animated video surfaced showing the PAK-DA’s blended wing-body design, which looks a whole lot like a B-2 Spirit stealth bomber knock-off. It’s probably not the aircraft’s final design considering the style of the video, which is strikingly similar to those published by Russia’s propaganda media arm, Russia Today.

Kuva ei toki edusta vielä täysin lopullista totuutta, mutta tuolla tarkkuudella lienee aika lähellä. Jos sitä tarkastelee, niin voi vetää kaksi johtopäätöstä suhteessa B2 Spirittiin.
  1. Koneen takaosa on paljon puhdaslinjaisempi, mikä ehkä heikentää liikehtimiskykyä, mutta parantaa stealthia myös laajemmalla taajuusalueella (ei pieniä ulokkeita)
  2. Siipien kärkiväli vaikuttaisi olevan, ainakin suhteessa, vähän enemmän --> Kyky lentää korkeammalla ja vähäisemmällä vastuksella
--> Kyseessä on siis korkealla ja kauas lentävä, hyvin stealth, mutta ei hirveän liikehtimiskykyinen pommari.



Sama analyysi nyt pidempänä versiona War Zonelta.Tuosta tulee kyllä mielenkiintoinen vehje.

B-21 hahmo alkaa valmistumaan. Samalla USAF tavoittelee pommikonemäärän kasvatusta runsas 50%. B-21 saattaisi tulla siis aika merkittävä määrä linjalta ulos vielä.

The service plans to buy 100 B-21s, enough to retire by 2040 its fleet of 20 Northrop B-2 Spirit stealth bombers and 62 Boeing B-1B Lancer bombers.

Citing military secrets Bunch declined to say much more about the B-21 programme. However, his USAF colleague, Lt Gen Jerry Harris, deputy chief of staff for strategic plans and requirements, appeared to indicate that the service may ask for funding to acquire dozens of additional B-21 Raiders.

“We would like to fix the nine squadrons (of bombers) we have right now to give them more airplanes per squadron and then continue to grow to somewhere in the neighborhood of 14 or 16 squadrons that are ready for the mission,” he said.

America’s oldest bomber could become its most powerful ‘arsenal plane’

The Boeing B-52 Stratofortress bomber is far more than an iconic glimpse of military aviation dating all the way back to 1952 — in many ways the updated platform remains the premier bomber in the U.S. Arsenal. As the U.S. Air Force clears the way for the forthcoming B-21 Raider, the comparably newer B-2 Spirit and B-1B Lancer are both slated for the scrap heap… with the mighty B-52 expected to remain on the active roster for years to come.
But staying in the fight has always meant changing for the B-52, which first entered operational service in 1955 and has since undergone repeated upgrade and update cycles. As one of the nation’s only two nuclear capable bombers (a distinction it shares only with the B-2 Spirit), the B-52 serves as a significant element of America’s nuclear triad while also fulfilling a variety of other conventional bomber responsibilities.
Now, with eyes toward the future of peer and near-peer warfare, however, the B-52 may need to adopt a new approach to combat operations. The massive aircraft is simply too big, too slow, and lacks the stealth to operate freely in contested airspace… but a new plan the Air Force is developing could make the aged bomber not only useful in the fight once again, it could make the legendary aircraft into the tip of the modern warfare spear.


One of the elements of the B-52H heavy bomber that has lasted since the aircraft’s inception are the pylons used to mount ordnance under the wings. These pylons are capable of wielding 5,000-pound bombs or missiles, which at the time seemed like more than any combat aircraft could ever need. Today, however, the U.S. military has two bombs that exceed that weight limit, one of which — the GBU-43/B MOAB — weighs in at an incredible 20,000 pounds, and the other — the GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP) — weighs approximately 10,000 pounds more than that.

The GBU-43 MOAB (commonly referred to as the Mother of All Bombs) saw its first use in combat in Afghanistan last April, where it was used to destroy an underground ISIS complex. It’s bigger brother, the MOP, is designed specifically to destroy underground bunkers protected by as much as 200 feet of reinforced concrete. These two weapons systems represent the most powerful conventional ordnance the U.S. has at their disposal. If these bombs can’t cut it, there’s nothing left to throw at a target without dipping into the nation’s nuclear stockpile.
With a payload capacity of 70,000 pounds, the B-52 is among the few aircraft employed by the U.S. military that could manage to carry more than one of these massive bombs, if only the hard points on the aircraft could support them.

You probably know where this is going.
“There wasn’t a requirement nor did anyone foresee a need to carry weapons heavier than 5,000lb,” a market survey released by the Air Force earlier this week reads. “With current heavy weapons exceeding 5,000lb there is a new requirement for a replacement external carriage pylon assembly to facilitate these and other emerging needs.”
The document goes on to solicit pitches from the private sector for a contract that would result in the prototyping and production of a system that would replace the 5,000 pound limit pylons with ones that could support the 20,000 pound MOAB on each wing… but it could potentially lead to much more than that. This new endeavor could ultimately produce what former Defense Secretary Ash Carter referred toas an “arsenal plane,” harkening back to the defunct “arsenal ship” concept of the 1990s.
An arsenal plane, in short, would be a massive bomber that was packed to the gills with long range standoff missiles like the Joint Air to Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) or more likely, the extended range variant. Using an on-board data link that supplies targeting data from stealth aircraft like the F-35 and the overhead constellation of defense satellites, a B-52H Arsenal Plane could support 5th generation fighters by approaching the cusp of contested airspace and releasing a massive salvo of missiles that could engage and destroy enemy aircraft or defenses, clearing the path for other more advanced aircraft to operate freely over the battlefield.
Using the B-52 for these purposes would certainly make much more sense than Lockheed’s pitch for a “beat mode” F-35 that included adding ordnance hard points to the wings of the aircraft and compromising its stealth profile.
This plan is still in its early stages, with the Air Force aiming for a three to six year time span for engineering and development.

Interfax-AVN - "Tupolev" in the beginning of 2019 will begin to manufacture the first prototypes of the promising long-range aviation complex (PAK DA), a source in the aviation industry told Interfax. "The transfer of the design documentation of the PAK DA to the Kazan aircraft plant is nearing completion, construction will begin in the coming months," the agency’s source said.
As reported, the promising long-range aviation airline (PAK DA), created by Tupolev (included in the UAC), is intended to replace the Tu-160, Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 in service. According to official data, the strategic bomber-bomber of the new generation will be made according to the aerodynamic configuration of a “flying wing” (without tail unit) and built using stealth technology. It was also reported that the PAK DA will be subsonic and will be able to carry more weapons than the Tu-160. According to Interfax sources, the PAK DA will be equipped with hypersonic weapons and defensive weapons - air-to-air missiles, which will allow the aircraft to fly unaccompanied.

In February 2018, the director of the Kazan aircraft factory Nikolay Savitsky announced the start of development work on the creation of the PAK DA. "At present, the technical appearance of the aircraft is protected, a contract has been concluded for the performance of experimental design work on the construction of prototypes," said N. Savitsky. Earlier, the general director of Tupolev, Alexander Konyukhov, told Interfax that the rollout of the first PAK DA prototype is planned for 2021-2022.
Yury Borisov, being in the position of the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation (now Deputy Prime Minister), stated that PAK DA can make the first flight in 2025-2026, and the start of serial production is scheduled for 2028-2029. He stressed that the prospective bomber under development should carry as many weapons as possible, be invisible and use any airfields.
As reported, in 2009, the Tupolev Design Office signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation for research work under the code "Messenger", as a result of which a draft draft of PAK DA was prepared.

Lisää juttua B-52 J (päivitetty versio) mahdollisista uudistuksista. Aivan lähiaikoina USAF:n pitäisi päättää moottorien päivittämisestä kokonaan uusiin tai vanhojen tuunaamisesta niin että niitä voidaan ylläpitää 2050-luvulle saakka. Moottorien pitäisi tuottaa 40% polttoaineen säästö ja lisävirtaa digitaalisille järjestelmille koneessa.
Muuta mahdollista: Uusi avioniikka, Stand-off ELSO järjestelmä, uudet Rotary kannattimet, heittoistuimet piloteille yms.

Huomattavaa on että koneissa on jo lisätty digitaaliset näytöt piloteille ja B-52H kantaa Sniper podia oikeassa siivessään joka mahdollistaa laserohjauksen ja kohteen tunnistamisen paremmin.
