An agreement on new firearms is expected in the spring
The agreements on new firearms are in full swing and at the end of March the plan is to sign a framework agreement together with Finland. After that, more detailed information about the weapons and deliveries will come out to the units, according to representatives at the Defense Materiel Works
An ongoing procurement of new firearms systems for the Armed Forces is carried out together with Finland and is now in the final phase. In order not to "disrupt that process", the head of the department for weapons and protection at the Defense Materiel Works, Per Norgren, does not want to reveal any details about the agreements, but says that it is about different weapons systems.
- There will be automatic carbines in different versions and sniper weapons. In the future, we will sign agreements for more weapon systems, also together with Finland.
In an article in the Officers magazine (no. 6/2021), the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration stated that the delivery of new firearms would begin in 2024, while there has been speculation in social media about deliveries from 2025. At the moment, Per Norgren does not want to give any time indication, but says that it does not involve any major changes in relation to what the authority previously said in the matter.
- Not all parts of the agreements are in place yet. Once the agreement is finalized, details will be presented.
