"God is punishing us with these HIMARS." Debauchery, abortions and pederasty: a priest of the Russian Orthodox Church blames Russians for the Ukrainian Armed Forces' strikes on Russian cities
The Russians themselves are to blame for the HIMARS and Scalp-EG missile strikes on Russian cities - this is how God punishes for abortions, and all wars - because of masturbation. Archpriest Andrei Tkachev said this during his latest sermon. This is not the first scandalous statement by the priest: earlier, among other things, he stated that "where there is atheism, there is pederasty," and the fetus that a pregnant woman carries does not belong to her at all.
"It is because of debauchery that wars occur. (...) The Lord punishes us with these "haimars" or "scalps" that fly over our cities. They fly to Voronezh, and to Kazan, and to Taganrog, and to St. Petersburg. And we will have no peace until we repent."
In a sermon published on January 14, 2025, Tkachev stated that "the only place where a man's seed should flow is the womb of his wife," and if "the seed flows anywhere," then "blood will flow, a war will begin." Thus, according to the priest, it is debauchery that causes all wars, and missiles are punishment for the sins committed.
The archpriest also cited statistics according to which "abortions take an order of magnitude more people in both peacetime and wartime."
"The fetus inside a woman does not belong to her"
Andrei Tkachev takes a radical position on the issue of abortion, which distinguishes him from other representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC). In particular, Tkachev's sermons included such instructions as "a child with Down syndrome must be born." He stated this on the Tsargrad TV channel in a program in which he praised a family that refused an abortion, despite the fact that an examination showed that the fetus had Down syndrome and other multiple pathologies.
"There lives a man. You don't know who will be born - maybe a composer, maybe an engineer, maybe a developer of the North, maybe just a good mechanic and father of seven children in the future. You don't know who you are carrying. Don't touch him, he is alive. It is not yours, what is in your womb is not yours."
He also noted that people themselves and their lusts are to blame for childlessness, and he called women who want to live for themselves selfish. Russian women who did not breastfeed their children do not even need breasts, Tkachev is sure. The internal genitals, which the priest called the womb, are given to a woman for childbirth, and the breast is for feeding.
"It would be better if you were a boy. (...) Why all this useless stuff?"
"Peacetimes are a real curse"
Questions of spirituality and sinfulness worry Andrei Tkachev no less than abortions. At the festival "Days of Dostoevsky in Optina Pustyn" in 2023, Tkachev said that people are currently especially "rotting".
"It is rare for anyone to rot like we do in peacetime. That is, peacetimes are a real curse. At least for a person like ours."
The Special Military Operation (SVO) had been going on for a year and a half at that time. "We are now fighting, by the way, with the most Soviet republic of all 15," Tkachev said in the same speech. "Ukraine is a foster child of the Soviet Union, which has grown in territory, and received what it never had. It has industry, science and everything else, it is the most beloved child of the red project. We are fighting the red infection from the outside... and we must fight it from the inside."
"No Prayerful Frenzy"
In another sermon, Andrei Tkachev reproached Belgorod residents for not praying enough to the city's defender, Saint Joasaph of Belgorod, for an end to the shelling of the city.
"Belgorod residents should, in theory, have long ago seen the light and constantly perform prayers, religious processions, psalter readings, kneeling, so that the Lord will have mercy on Tetkino [Kursk region], Shebekino, Belgorod and everything else"
Tkachev reproached Russians for not zealously observing Orthodox traditions not only in trouble, but also in joy. During his sermon on Christmas night on January 7, 2025, he noted that those who do not feel joy on a holiday do not have a soul.
"Sinners are "shaken up" on holidays, because grace burns an unrepentant soul. It does not amuse, but angers. And if you are especially sad, especially irritated, especially impatient, especially agitated on holidays, it means that you are living incorrectly."
"Where there is atheism, there is pederasty"
Tkachev often acts as a defender of the traditional role of men in society. At one of his speeches, the clergyman said that a person's sexual orientation is influenced by where he lives - in a large city or a small town. "And among whom are there more homosexuals - among tractor drivers or among designers?" he asked.
"Where there is easy money, where there are drinking parties, where there is an idle life, where there is pride, where there is atheism - there is pederasty"
Tkachev even called for allowing children to work from the age of seven or eight, since a prolonged childhood interferes with building a family life in the future.
"A man, an eight-year-old man - that's exactly what we need. Who will work and fight if necessary."
