Finland has already begun working to enhance its air force with LITENING targeting pods, modern AIM-120C-7 AMRAAM and AIM-9X Sidewinder air-air missiles, and other enhancements. Items requested in this notice include:

79 Multifunctional Information Display Systems/Low Volume Terminals (MIDS/LVT) to provide Link 16 shared displays

70 AN/ARC-210 (RT-1851A-c) Radios, including Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System (SINCGARS)
75 AN/AYQ-9 (V) Stores Management System Upgrades. The current state of the art is the AN/AYQ-22.
72 Color Cockpit Displays
70 Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing Systems (JHMCS) Laser Helmet Shields – presumably a protective addition, as Finland is already a JHMCS customer.

BAE Systems awarded contract to enhance capability of Finnish Air Force

Yeovil, United Kingdom - BAE Systems has been awarded a contract to provide a Link 16 network management system to the Finnish Air Force. Supporting the operation of Finland's F-18 aircraft, the system will enable ground command and control operators to connect to, and maintain contact with, their fast jets across the entire country.
The Link 16 network management solution offered by BAE Systems allows the Finnish Air Force to dynamically monitor the connectivity between the various ground sites and the aircraft, and to continuously measure how the network is performing to maintain an uninterrupted service.

'British Typhoons Whacked India's Sukhois in Joint Exercises'
Britain's frontline fighter jet Eurofighter Typhoon, shortlisted for India's $10.4-billion combat jets tender, whacked the Indian Air Force (IAF) warhorse Sukhoi in one-on-one dog fights during bilateral air war games, if Britain's air chief is to be believed.
"Well, they lost," was Stephen Dalton's response when IANS asked how the Russia-developed India-manufactured Su-30MKI air superiority jets performed against the Royal Air Force's (RAF) Typhoons when they matched their wits during the joint exercises in recent years.

However, he was quick to add that the two aircraft are different in technologies, and that Typhoons are next generation, and hence there is no comparison.

Dalton was interacting with IANS at the recently held Royal International Air Tattoo military air show at the RAF base here.

The two aircraft were pitted against each other during 'Indradhanush' exercises in 2007 at Waddington in Britain and in 2010 at Kalaikunda in India.

Amraam on tutkaohjattu toisin kuin tuo Python 4. AIM-9X sen sijaan on laukaistavissa vaikka taaksepäin kypärätähtäimen avulla, se osaa lukittua vasta laukaisun jälkeen.

Ja koska se osaa lukittua vasta laukaisun jälkeen, niin sen ei pitäisi tarvita nimenomaisesti sitä kypärätähtäintä, vaan veikkaan, että maalitiedot voisi saada myös toiselta koneelta. Voi tietenkin olla, että tuossa on jokin käytännön este (teknistä estettä kai ei ole?).

Puhut siis uusimmasta Block II versioista, otaksun?

Tuo videoklippi oli AIM-9X Block I ohjuksesta (10 v.sitten), joka vaati kypärätähtäimen lukituksen ennen laukaisua.

Uusin versio voi siis lukittua myös laukaisun jälkeen ja sisältää yksisuuntaisen datalinkin, parannetun hakupään, ECCM-parannukset ja uuden sytyttimen.
Ohjuksella voi hyökätä myös pintamaaleihin maalla ja merellä.

NAVAL AIR SYSTEMS COMMAND, PATUXENT RIVER, Md. – The Navy’s Air-to-Air Missile Systems Program Office (PMA-259) reached a Milestone C decision June 24 for the AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II missile, thus authorizing the system to enter low rate initial production.

PMA-259’s industry partner, Raytheon, will begin production of more than 5,000 operational AIM-9X Block II rounds for U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force warfighters over the life of the program.

“This milestone allows us to provide U.S. and allied fighter pilots upgraded missiles which are needed to dominate air combat in an increasingly challenging threat environment,” said Capt. John Martins, PMA-259 program manager.

The AIM-9X Block II program corrects obsolescence issues and provides performance upgrades to the highly successful, fifth generation infrared-guided air-to-air-missile, AIM-9X Block I program. Obsolescence changes include updates for the guidance unit electronic circuit card assemblies, battery, and the active optical target detector (Fuze). The Block II has ability to operate with impunity against modern threat radar counter measures such as Digital RF Memory Jammers, Towed Decoys, and Stealth airframes.

Performance upgrades to Block II variant include the addition of advanced capabilities to maintain warfighter advantage in the visual arena and meet requirements for beyond visual range employment. These technical improvements focus on seeker performance, infrared counter-countermeasures, kinematics, and lock-on after launch supported by a data-link.

Olisiko nimenomaan tuo Block 2. Sidewinder. Ei välttämättä muuta uutta, kuin se, että se voidaan lukita kohteeseen laukaisun jälkeen. Tämä ominaisuus on siis tärkeä silloin kun ohjuksia kuljetetaan koneessa sisäisesti.
