At DIMDEX 2018, the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition & Conference currently held in Qatar, Italian shipbuilding group Fincantieri is showcasing for the first time the multi-role air defence corvettes for the Qatari Navy.

Qatar confirmed in August 2017 its order for seven vessels from Fincantieri following the signing of a preliminary contract in June 2016. The deal consists in four air defence corvettes of over 100 meters in length, one amphibious vessel (LPD - Landing Platform Dock acting as mobile radar station for the corvettes), and two patrol vessels (OPV - Offshore Patrol Vessel).
Fincantieri is showcasing for the very first time a scale model of the future corvette on its stand at DIMDEX 2018
The corvette design selected by the Qatari Navy has a length of 107 meters, a maximum breadth of 14.70 meters, a draft of 4.20 meters for a full load displacement of 3250 tons.
Its maximum speed is set to be 28 knots, its range 3500 nautical miles (at 15 knots). The propulsion system will be CODAD type. It will have an endurance of 21 days.
The crew complement will be 98 sailors with accommodations for a total of 112 persons. The flight deck and hangar are sized for one NH90 helicopter.
A scale model of the corvette is also present on the Qatari Navy booth
In terms of weapon systems, the corvettes will be fitted with a 76mm main gun by Leonardo, 16x VLS cells for ASTER 30 surface to air missiles (by MBDA), two Marlins 30mm remote weapon stations (Leonardo), 8x Exocet MM40 Block III (MBDA) and RAM launcher (21 missiles) by Raytheon for short range air defense.
Leonardo is responsible for the integrated supply of the new naval units’ combat system (Athena), main radar system (Kronos) and on-board sensors and defence sub-systems, including the anti-torpedo protection system and the Thesan mine avoidance sonar.
A total of four Sylena Mk2 decoy launchers by Lacroix will protect the vessels against anti-ship missile threats.
These corvettes will become the backbone and the most potent surface combatants of the Qatari Navy fleet.
First steel cutting is set to take place in June 2018 while delivery of first of class vessel is expected in 2021.
These corvettes will become the backbone and the most potent surface combatants of the Qatari Navy fleet.
The contract also includes support services in Qatar for 15 years after the delivery of the vessels. All the units will be entirely built in Fincantieri Italian shipyards starting from 2018, ensuring 6 years of work and an important impact on the main Italian defense companies.
Fincantieri and the Qatari Navy are also showcasing for the first time the designs of the OPV and LPD. Stay tuned for Navy Recognition's coverage of these two new vessels.
Aster 30 soveltuu huonosti lähitorjuntaan, koska sen minimitorjuntaetäisyys on niin suuri (3km), joten RAM on CIWS.^ Ja mikäs siellä onkaan Aster 30:n aisaparina? RAM.
One of ESSM's known strengths is its spectacularly small minimum engagement range. This is apparently a few hundred metres (possibly only in easy scenarios), while Aster 30 with its booster had such issues with short range that the Aster 15 version with shorter range and shorter minimum range had to be developed.
A very short minimum range may make dedicated short range missiles unnecessary, which affects the RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile. This missile has racked up an impressive reliability and hit record in test firings, but it has a possibly fatal flaw: It (almost certainly) cannot reliably defend against an infrared guided anti-ship missiles such as NSM. Its passive radar seeker capability is useless against it, and its own infrared seeker almost certainly cannot sense a missile incoming from the direction of a dawning sun.
The ESSM Block 2 may thus become an all-in-one answer to naval needs for defence against aircraft and air-breathing missiles for the 2020's.
M2 kirjoitti:At least Saab, Thales, DCNS and Selex/Leonardo are apparently offering integrated masts with their own sensors ccoupled with their combat-management systems. Then there is Lockheed offering something that might be too expensive anyway. I don't know if they are even considering the Israeli alternative, probably not.
Chepe kirjoitti:I don't see why Israeli combat system would be out of contention, they are probably amongst the most modern and FDF has bought Israeli systems before.
M2 kirjoitti:Getting Israeli systems is one thing, giving them the combat system integration responsibility is another. It won't happen unless the Finns opt for Fixit and Trump makes deals with Putin...
Mihin viitannee Lockheedin too expensive something? CMS 330 on hyvin todennäköinen softan osalta kun on LM Kanada.
Kerrohan joku järkevä syy hankkia ohjukset kahdella eri vientiluvalla?
The effectiveness of a propeller depends upon several factors but size is one of the most important. Theoretically, a single bladed propeller would be the most efficient but the vibration that would result makes this an impractical option. However, there is little agreement as to how many blades are the best options with the result that very similar ship may be fitted with quite different propellers based on personal choice and complex mathematical calculations.
Väitteesi on omasi, eikä linkissä esiintyvä!Voisiko joku selittää mitä juuri luin.. yksilapainen potkuri olisi teoriassa tehokkain? Mutta käytännössä vibraatio estää sellaisen käytön. Mutta miten YKSI lapainen voi olla tehokkain?

Totta, käänsin väärin. Nojoo, yhdeltä yöllä ei ole ihan terävimmillään. Tiedettä sekin.Väitteesi on omasi, eikä linkissä esiintyvä!
most efficient ei todellakaan tarkoita suomeksi tehokkainta, vaan hyötysuhteeltaan parasta.
Lavat aiheuttaa toisilleen vastusta? Ilman puolella termi olisi turbulenssi.
Lockheed Martin Canada shortlisted for Finnish Navy battleship contract
Mitään uutta ei ole, ja uutinen on viime vuodelta. Mutta tämä otsikko on suorastaan orgastinen.
"BATTLESHIP"
Ei korvetti, ei frigatti, ei hävittäjä, ei risteilijä, ei finnjet, vaan TAISTELULAIVA.
PS. Juu mikä tahansa busteri kookoolla on taistealus, taisteluun kykenevä alus jne. Mutta kyllä tuo otsikointi silti hymyilyttää.

Tiedä mihin tässä vielä ehditään? Taisteluplaneetta? Kuolemantähti?
