In 1978, the Israel Aviation Industry released Gabriel-3 with an active radar-tracking system. The firing range in the surface-to-surface variant did not change, but the missile was also developed in the air-to-surface version (1980, Gabriel 3AS), the range of which could reach 60 km with a turbojet engine. However, with Harpoon in service, the Israeli Navy was not interested in Gabriel-3. In parallel, other RCCs appeared in the West, Penguin (1972) in Norway, Exocet (1973) in France, as a consequence, Gabriel-3 was not supplied for export, while previous versions, and especially Gabriel-2, were successful (see Appendix 1).
In the early 90's. was introduced "Gabriel-4" long-range (Gabriel 4LR). The solid fuel jet engine was replaced by a turbojet, the range increased to 200 km, the BC was increased to 240 kg. Nevertheless, this time the Navy also preferred Harpoon, especially since they were bought with US military aid.
About 10 years ago it was published that the "Israeli Aviation Industry" is developing a new RCC. In other sources, it is commonly referred to as "Gabriel-5", although the IAI site uses the name ANAM (Advanced Naval Attack Missile). It was reported about the export of a batch of these missiles to Azerbaijan within 1.8 billion. the contract of 2011 (together with other weapons), but there is no confirmation of the fact of the supply.
In March 2016, the Israeli Navy demonstrated the testing of a new rocket from the side of the corvette "Saar-5" (although its name was not mentioned). The site defense-update noted that the new missile is longer and faster than Harpoon, presumably equipped with a straight-through air-jet engine, has supersonic flight speed and a considerable range of fire. In any case, it is clear that this is not ANAM.
And finally, in April 2017, a clear photo of the new PU appeared on the "Khanit" corvette of the "Saar-5" type, taken during the exercises of Novel Dina 17 in Greece. It can be seen that the new PU for 4 missiles took the place of one of the Mk141 PU of Harpoon missiles and slightly outnumber them. On the photo, the missiles are named "GabrielX". Yellow-black circles are visible on the PU, which means that the PU is used for testing.
