The Armenian military said it suffered casualties and lost two positions during the Azerbaijani attacks in the eastern border.

“As a result of the battles which started as a result of the Azerbaijani armed forces’ attack on Armenian positions there are killed and wounded [servicemen] on the Armenian side, and information on the casualties are still being checked, and the loss of two combat positions is also confirmed,” the Ministry of Defense said.

The units of the Armenian Armed Forces made the adversary suffer great losses of armored vehicles and manpower with their adequate actions. The battles continue, and the intensity hasn’t weakened.

In a report posted on its website on November 16, the Defence Ministry said: "The Armenian armed forces units continue large-scale provocations against Azerbaijan on the state border. To aggravate the situation on the state border, the military formations of the opposing side using mortars of various caliber and artillery pieces subjected to fire the Azerbaijan army units stationed in Lachin region."

The Azerbaijan army units are taking adequate measures to suppress Armenia's provocations, the report added.

On November 16, at about 1100, Armenian military formations launched a sudden military operation in order to capture the high grounds in this direction of the state border and take more advantageous positions, thereby gaining military superiority.

It added that Armenian military units, assembling additional forces, special military equipment at the border combat positions in Basarkechar and Garakilsa regions, attacked the Azerbaijani army's combat posts in Kalbajar and Lachin regions.

"The opposing side using weapons of various caliber and grenade launchers intensively firing on the positions of the Azerbaijan army, damaged the combat posts. As a result, according to preliminary information, two servicemen of the Azerbaijan army were wounded. The servicemen were provided with urgent medical assistance. There is no danger to their life," the report added.

Turkki ilmoitti perjantaina käytävistä rauhanneuvotteluista, joissa on mukana kuusi maata.

Armenian puolustusministeriön mukaan Azerbaidžanin joukot ovat tulittaneet rajusti armenialaisjoukkojen asemia myöhään keskiviikkona, venäläinen uutistoimisto Tass kertoo.

Tulitus oli armenialaisten mukaan tauonnut, kun Armenia ryhtyi vastaiskuun. Armenian puolella ei tullut uhreja, ministeriö kertoi Tassin mukaan.


Azerbaidžan puolestaan kertoi aiemmin torstaina, että yksi sen sotilaista olisi saanut surmansa Armenian ”provokaatiossa”, uutistoimisto Reuters kertoo.


Vihamieliset naapurit ottivat viimeksi yhteen rajusti marraskuun puolivälissä. Silloin yli kahdenkymmenen ihmisen kerrottiin kuolleen taisteluissa, jotka päättyivät, kun Venäjä vaati osapuolia peräytymään.


Viime vuonna maiden välille puhkesi kuusi viikkoa kestänyt sota, joka vaati ainakin 6 500 kuolonuhria. Sodassa Azerbaidžan sai vallattua laajoja alueita kiistellystä Vuoristo-Karabahista.

Venäjällä ja Armenialla on puolustussopimus. Turkki puolestaan on tukenut Azerbaidžania.


Turkki ilmoitti torstaina, että Venäjällä järjestetään perjantaina kuuden maan neuvottelut, joissa pyritään löytämään ratkaisua Vuoristo-Karabahin kiistaan, Reuters kertoo.

Niin sanotun Etelä-Kaukasian rauhanohjelman maita ovat Armenia, Azerbaidžan, Venäjä, Turkki, Georgia ja Iran.
 
Ukraina vitjassa olikin hiljattain asiaa Armenialaisten(kin) värväämisestä venäläisten riveihin. Näyttää uhkaavasti sille, että revanssi nagorno-karabahissa nostelee päätään, ja ruudinpolttotalkoot alkavat sielläkin kohta uudestaan.

Since their deployment Russian peacekeepers with the full support of General Andrei Volkov, the commander of the Russian contingent, take the side of Karabakh and turn a blind eye to the regular ceasefire violations. The ceasefire regime violations in Nagorno-Karabakh has been recorded by the parties since early March this year.

Thus, after the Russian contingent withdrawal from the region, Baku will have the opportunity to take a total control over the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh within 1-1.5 weeks and thereby restore the territorial integrity of the state.

The troops of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh have not recovered from the defeat in the 2020 war and are unlikely to be capable of resisting the armed forces of Azerbaijan, who received combat training and experience in the 2020 campaign.

In case of more volunteers are sent to fight in Ukraine at the request of Moscow, Armenia may lose even more controlled territories in future.
