The accident night 8 November there were more people on the bridge on the KNM "Helge Ingstad" than what is normal. Five people are included in the standard crew frigate; Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief of Police, Navigator and Two Lookouts.
But when the collision occurred, there were a total of seven people present on the bridge. Six of them were Norwegians. The last one was a US officer, as more media have reported Wednesday.
Now the police confirm this information to NRK.
"It is a matter of Norwegian crew members, in addition to a NATO member," says police inspector Frode Karlsen at the West police district.
- Is this NATO member an American?
- Yes, says Karlsen.
Under training
All seven have been questioned by the police. However, Karlsen does not want to say anything about the role of the US officer.
"The crew member of NATO, its role and the other's role, we wish for the sake of investigation not to go on," he says.
It was Bergens Tidende that first reported that there was an American on the bridge.
DN wrote earlier Wednesday that the US officer was under the leadership of the chief executive officer.
NRK has previously reported that navigation training was conducted on the journey the frigate was on before the collision.
After the NRK is informed, the US officer must have had a central function on the bridge ahead of the collision, but did not have formal responsibility.
Exchange
The Navy has not wanted to confirm the details of the American, except that he was on board the frigate.
"We have regular officers on exchange with our allies, and officers from other countries are on exchange with us," says Herland.
She can not understand how experienced the American is.
- Normally it is officers with a certain experience that is on exchange. US officers have undergone a maritime war school, she says.
- What responsibility does personnel have on exchange?
"They have no independent responsibility when they are on an exchange on board," she says.
No counts for now
The US officer is followed up on an equal footing with the others who were aboard the frigate when it collided.
"They get the same follow-up of the crisis team as the others get," says Herland.
The police have not yet brought out cases in the case.
"The ongoing assessments around it are the prosecuting authority that strikes, and I do not want to go into it, except to say that there are currently no people who have changed their status," says Karlsen.
The police have collected large amounts of electronic data from the vessel.
"There is some work left before we have an overview of what we have and what it tells us. There is preliminary investigation at an early stage, says Karlsen.
Communicated in Norwegian
In the audio logs VG has published, all communication was preceded by the accident in Norwegian.
It takes one minute and 44 seconds from MT 'Sola TS' over the VHF, the naval traffic center asks which boat is coming against them until a Norwegian voice is reported from the bridge on the frigate.
The answer comes four seconds after the KNM "Helge Ingstad" is specifically called.
Tuotakin on vatvottu.

Tuotakin on vatvottu.
Navigoivatko ainoastaan ikunasta ulos katsoen?!
Vaginoida?Naiset eivät osaa navigoida - osaavat vain vaginoida.
